I was under the impression this book was a mystery/thriller. The summary on the back cover made it seem so - and the first 80 pages or so seemed to confirm. Then Mac meets God. No really. He actually meets God. And Jesus. And the Holy Spirit. This is no metaphor, dream, or hallucination, folks. Its the "real" deal. Mac and The Trinity proceed to have a philosophical discussion about man's relationship with God that takes up most of the rest of the book. The only reason I didn't quit reading immediately upon the realization that the author inteded I actually believe such an exchange occured, was to see Mac come to some kind of peace with his daughter's death. If you are pretty solidly Christian or spend your weekends engrossed in theology, this book may be for you. If you are Jewish, Pagan, Buddhist, Agnostic, Atheist or anything else, I suggest you keep your receipt.

In this sequel to With Good Behavior, Jennifer Lane takes us on an emotional journey of discovery and strength with her two main characters that left me wanting more. She proved once again why I love her writing. Picking up where WGB left off, Sophie and Grant continue their routines of going to work and parole meetings, only now they have to add couples counseling into the mix. This won't be an easy task for either of them, especially since they are still learning about each other. Our favorite parolees both have to face things they never thought they'd have to again, including an old professor of Sophie's and Grant's incarcerated father, relying on each other to make it through. Even amidst the bad and difficult situations they have to face, good news is on the horizon, proving that they can make it together. Jennifer Lane maintained a beautiful mixture of humor and angst as she delved deeper into Sophie and Grant's story. New nicknames, interesting twists, and difficult decisions are just a few of the things that Bonnie and McSailor have to face and that's not even the half of it. I fell for the sweet and sensitive Grant in With Good Behavior, but in this continuation he is even more adorable and dream worthy. Who doesn't want a strong and sensitive former Navy Sailor? There were a few sensitive scenes that took place, and this is not for younger readers, but it's a story that's intrigued me from the very beginning. And for one am already anxious for the conclusion to this series, On Best Behavior. Jen has done a fantastic job dealing with the complicated emotions one has to face when being released from prison and I looked forward to reading anything else from her in the future.

** spoiler alert ** Olus is the Akkan god of the winds - but at just seventeen years old, much younger than all the other gods and goddesses, he doesn't fit in and often feels lonely. So he decides to spend some time among the mortals of the world. He travels to the nearby land of Hyte, and becomes particularly fascinated by a mortal girl named Kezi and her family. Fifteen-year-old Kezi lives a comfortable and carefree life. She is a gifted weaver of rugs, and she loves to dance. But her carefree life is shattered in one terrible moment. Her mother becomes deathly ill, and desperate to save his wife, her father makes a terrible oath to make a sacrifice to the Admat, the all-powerful god of Hyte, if his wife is spared. And in order to protect her aunt, who saved Kezi's life as a child, Kezi fufills the oath and will become the sacrifice. Now, Kezi has just thirty days to find a way to save her life. Olus, who has fallen in love with Kezi, believes he can save her by helping her become immortal, and to that end the young couple sets off on a series of quests that will test their courage and their love for each other. Ever was another wonderful fantasy adventure by Gail Carson Levine, told in the alternating voices of Kezi and Olus, giving us a glimpse into both their minds. As with her other books, she has created an exotic and believable world filled with wonderful characters. I highly recommend this book to fans of the author's other novels, as well as to young teens who enjoy romantic fantasy novels.

This book was a lot of fun. I love Christopher Moore's sense of humor. Thanks Krys for the recommendation! I still haven't read the sequel, "You Suck" but I plan to pick it up in the near future. I have to find out what happens to these two!

Pretty silly. The author has an obvious ax to grind, and highlights an extreme example of Mormonism, doing little to shed light on its appeal and power over followers. If she hadn't set it against the backdrop of Mormon culture, I doubt this shoddily-constructed, oddly-paced mystery would have garnered much attention.
