Wonderful, just like all of Alan Watts' stuff. Sadly, this was unfinished due to his death.

I was wary of picking up Vonnegut for a long time, because even though he's such a well regarded author, his plots are so science fiction based, and I have little to no interest in science fiction. After asking for book recommendations for my trip to Europe, my friend Amanda recommended this to me and I trust her taste, so I figured it was time for me and Vonnegut to get together. And I am so glad that we did. As anticipated, yes, the plot was a bit ridiculous and very science fiction based, but the thing about Vonnegut is that there's so much going on outside of it that the plot almost becomes a supporting role in the entire construction. That sounds strange, I know, but if you've ever read him, you'll know what I mean. I can't really go into detail too much about this or it will ruin the last portion of the book, but there are some incredibly interesting parallels between the war in Sirens and the war in Iraq. This might be one of his lesser known works, but I love it, and it's absolutely a worthwhile read. Read it, read it, read it!

One of my favorite biographies. John Adams is one of the relatively unsung heroes of the American Revolution, and David McCullough brings him to life in an amazing way. It's a page-turner of a historical biography.

Definitely not one of my favorites by Picoult. I loved that multiple controversial issues were addressed, but I did not like the predictability of the story line.

I hadn't really had the opportunity to read this book as a child and I am definitely glad that I finally had the chance to. The strength of the book is the well-defined characters who are incredibly memorable, especially the hilariously arrogant and self-centered Toad. However, the language is terribly archaic and very hard to parse in print, but I followed along with an audiobook and it became significantly more enjoyable when it was read to me. I would definitely recommend that this book be read out loud to children as opposed to being read silently by children.

This is pretty funny light reading. Nothing earth-shattering, but entertaining.

I found the story (despite the dramatic tension and seriousness of it- woman accused of cruelty while acting as a guard in a concentration camp during WWII) to be rather flat and uncompelling(perhaps it was badly translated from the original German??). I didn't find any of the characters to be particularly interesting or sympathetic. Perhaps the movie version was better....

This is one of the best collections of charmingly surreal (and a bit spooky) short stories I've read in a long time. She even includes a story centered around emergency escape plans in case of zombie attacks. And all without a trace of irony.
