This is a fast paced read. I could not stop reading. Something is changing people. It makes them violent, murderous, no one is safe from family to friends even neighbors. Across the nation people are being hunted down murdered and maimed. All you can do is run for your life! The killers are scary and unrelenting. There also is a bit of humour. You come to care about some of the main characters. The children are written about like real children. This is a truly gripping thiller. I really loved the way it centered around a familys love for each other and what it takes to survive in a world gone mad . Look for ward to reading more books by Blake Crouch

This book, as a friend of mine said, is haunting. I ended it with a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach but that probably had to do with how well it was written. Once you get past the perspective, the voice of the 5 year old boy, you really start to emerge yourself into this crazy world his "Ma" has created for him. I won't say much else because the best part about this story is figuring it out yourself. I agree with my aforementioned friend, just "go in blind" and read it!

i REALLY wanted to love this book. but even, his visions of new orleans couldnt' make me nostalgic.
This book changed my life. Memories still: intense long hard days moving furniture for refugees in Fredericksburg; long drive back to Arlington; subway ride back to DC, reading this book. Quoting it with my coworker -- "ball that jack!" down Fredericksburg roads. Near delirious walks home from the subway -- NY Ave in DC, glorious sunsets, my mesh ballcap, running shoes; that air; hellos with random folks on the street; Home and a cold beer. Letting go of much; living into Dean and Sals freedom. Daring to dream.

ARose loves the movie.
I am so happy that more of her novels are getting translated! This is a beautiful portrait of the relationship of two women who are getting old. Under the stories of mundane moments, vacations, bad guests and learning new skills runs the theme of loving another person. I don't usually get moved my love stories, but this one was so unusual in its understated tone, and that the protagonists are both women, and that they are old, and have already spent their lives together before the book even starts. I read to myself and enjoyed it so much, that Jonathan and I then read it out loud to each other. Fresh blooming young love is played out everywhere. This, in its difference was a convincing and moving portrait of love.

i read this when i had the flu (so that might be part of why i disliked it). seemed like an erudite da vinci code which was less enjoyable as a result. the real foucault is better!

Difficult to read and compelling. Not the best writing, and slow in parts, but extremely emotionally gripping.
Thought it was a fairly intriguing book; kept me interested and pulled me through to the end.
