Couldn't put this down -- devoured it in a few days. A must read for any political junkie!

While I did like this book, it was not one of my favourite Jodi Picoult books. There was just something about this book, and I still can’t figure out what it is exactly, that I wasn’t able to connect with. The names drove me crazy. I wasn’t able to keep track of who was who and I had to keep going back to the beginning to remind myself who was who. It also didn’t help that there were these flashbacks that didn’t really add to the story, in my opinion. What I did love is that once again Jodi made me believe in a situation that was so far-fetched. Do I think that a suicide pact is far-fetched? No, I don’t. But the way that the one in this book plays out is. Even after having read the book twice, I still don’t know the reason it happened in the first place. Not to mention, that Emily, who comes up with the idea never gives a reason for her wanting to commit suicide, not even to Chris who ends up being the surviving member of the pact. Even though he is never given a reason a reason, Chris decides to end his life simply because he can’t see his life being worth living without her in it. To me, that isn’t realistic at all and that is where Jodi Picoult’s talent really comes in. While I may not have believed in the circumstances, she did have me believing in the characters. My Rating 3*

Oh My Gawd! This book is so amazing! I absolutely loved everything about it! ...And considering how critical I am, this is such a rare thing for me to say. Let's start by looking at the plot: Brother and sister fall in love with each other. Your initial reaction might be of disgust, but I am into bizarre romance novels so I was thrilled to get my hands on this book. The first thing I noticed as I began reading it was how great the writing style was. It made the experience of reading this book way more enjoyable. Moreover, the characters are so well developed. Lochan and Maya are so genuine and the author described them in such a way that in my head I knew exactly what each of them looked like, felt and etc. You may be repulsed by the idea of incestuous relationship, but it is done in such a refine, delicate way that I constantly rooted for them. This novel had the spark that I am constantly seeking in books I read. I felt the characters struggle, their genuine passion and I was so into this novel. You get to see what it is like to be a teenager and be alone in the world and having to take care of your younger siblings and the inner battle Maya and Lochan suffer with their feelings towards each other. The ending is really powerful, I don't want to give to much information so I don't spoil it for those of you that are thinking about reading but I was weeping so hard- that's how emotional and powerful it is. I don't remember the last time I cried this hard reading a novel. I spent hours reflecting on the topic and it really angered me when thinking about, who are we to intervene in true love? Lochan and Maya loved each other so blameness and their love did not harm anyone...why would society look at it in such a disgusted shallow way and more over, why would the authorities intrude if it's consensual and pure? --Ok I am rambling now xP I would recommend this book to EVERYONE, even if you're a little iffy about the brother and sister thing, get this book because your views on the subject might change (as they did for me). HOWEVER, the book is very explicit and detailed on the more intimate scenes so if you're too young than wait till you're at least 14/15 to read this novel. I loved this novel so much!!! It is definitely going on my top 5 all time favorite books- that's how amazing it is! x Aline

Won this on First Reads Giveaway. I can't wait for its arrival.
I listened to the audio. Unusual plot and good story. Maybe a bit too drawn out. Some of the things that Ellen did in Florida were just too unbelievable for this realist. I knew what was going to happen one and a half disks before the "suspense" finally ended. I kept thinking ---"come on, come on" but the story just went on and on. Had I been reading the "real" book, I would have skimmed to get ahead.

A picture tells a thousand words. The colorful illustrations in this children's picture book capture a beautiful story about a mouse and a lion. At the beginning of the story a mouse accidentally runs into a lion while trying to outrun an owl. The lion spares the mouses life. Later in the story the Lion is captured in a net made by men. The little mouse remembers how the lion spared his life and decides to free the lion by bitting through the rope and freeing him. The setting of the story takes place in somewhere where the wild life runs free. My favorite illustration is when the lion makes eye contact with the mouse while he is trap in the net. I was a bit confuse with what the mouse brought back to his baby mice. It looked like a piece of rope. Maybe to symbolize the mouse's heroic efforts. I found the sounds that the illustrator includes in his illustrations are effective. The illustrations capture lots of action in them. This story was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 2010.
