(Unabridged audioversion - read alternately by the author and Mary Stuart Masterson.) The back-and-forth story of two grown sisters and their similarities and differences, the tensions and the bonds between them, told at 5 year intervals. Perhaps because I too have only a sister for a sibling, I enjoyed this very much.

Oh its a jolly holiday with… Dick Van Dyke! Appropriately titled, “My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business,” Van Dyke’s memoir was a refreshingly positive look back on his acting career. I could not help but smile as he recounted how he continually fell into amazing opportunities. Read my full review on: http://fastpageturner.wordpress.com/

Tom Rachman is an English/Canadian journalist who has worked for international newspapers all over the world. As such, he chose to write his first novel about the workings inside the headquarters of an international newspaper based in Rome. The book basically consists of a lot of short stories, centered on key people working for the newspaper, with some interludes to keep the main plot going. It's quite an interesting idea to build a story this way, and a clever way as well, since the reader might treat every chapter as a story of its own and will therefore have no problem in reading the book over the course of a few weeks or even months. Plus, if one character is annoying as hell, there's always the promise that at the end of the chapter you'll be mostly done with him. The fact that none of the characters are perfect (just as the title suggests) but all portrayed in a very human way means that the reader can relate to (almost) everybody in one way or another. At the very least you will have met people like the ones described. The main plot is also rather intriguing, even if it only starts developing about halfway through the book. I didn't expect it to end like it did but maybe there was no other possible ending for that kind of story. Without wanting to spoil anything I can't say much more but it should give rise to interesting discussions afterwards. This certainly is no book if you're looking for romance and walking off into the sunset, but it provides studies of genuine characters and does it exactly what it says on the cover. Also, even though I tend not to believe the review quotes on the back, this is a case where I'd sign every single one of them. Plus, can I just say that I love short stories! 4.5/5 stars ... decided to round up ;).

At first, I had a really hard time getting into this book......I think it was the fact that my mind was trying to grasp Jane Austen era speak with modern day zombiedom......I had to just sit back and enjoy the bizarreness of it......I ended up thinking it was hilarious and am STILL a huge fan of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy....*sigh*......the story is still very romantic and very funny with the zombie addition.....I still can't stand Mrs. Bennett and Lydia......but that is just how the story is written.....overall....very funny and enjoyable book!!!!....

The old-time/intellectual wording may make this book slow going for some readers, but if you can push through it, it's so worth the effort! Awe-inspiring read that focuses the soul's eye firmly on its Maker. Hope to re-read yearly.

I read this while in high school (probably when I was 15), and the stars I gave it are purely an emotional reaction to my memory of that book. I didn't like it because it disturbed and almost frightened me. I could not identify with the angry women in the story and their oppressive male counterparts, except as I'd seen such people depicted in other media. I can't speak to the craft of the novel, since I was too young/uninformed to take that context with me while I read it. That said, it has clearly stuck with me for years, since a casual comment by a co-worker just brought it to mind.
