Very readable. I flet like I was sitting down with an old friend as she cought me up with what had been happening in her life. What is a "normal" childhood anyway? Most of the time parents are doing the best they can, with good intenetions. Sometimes distance gives perspective. And I love reading books that I feel like I'm learning something too (not just a good story). I learned a lot more about yoga and added about a dozen new words to my vocabulary.

A mind blowing book. Just keeping the plot together for such a long story is an achievement in itself. Though the book is long but you will like to finish it in one sitting.

set in the Amish country of Ohio. The protagonist is Kate Burkholder, the police chief of a small town. She was raised Amish, but chose not to join the church when she reached adulthood. The novels, however, are very positive toward the Amish culture. These books are suspenseful mysteries and at times quite intense. I always think that one of the most difficult tasks for the author of a series is cueing in the reader of the later books to what he must know as background if he has not read the previous titles, without becoming unduly repetitive for the series-style reader. I think that Castillo has not yet quite worked this out, but, in truth, that is only a minor distraction. I will gladly await other novels in this series.

As an avid baseball fan (of the Sox, the red kind) spending summers on the Cape and taking in a Cape League game in Chatham, Brewster or Cotuit was heaven. Needless to say, I was excited to see the book on the book shelf at the store and had high expectations. While the it would never be able to fully capture how incredible it is to see those kids play their hearts out, it does as best it can to paint the picture for people to read. I read it long enough ago that I don't remember specific details about it - but I do recall that it provided a perspective into the league and the teams that you can't get being an outsider and from sitting in the stands, and an idea of the activity surrounding the teams, players and scouts. A great read, especially for anyone interested in baseball.
wonderful book! one of miss austen's better works.
