I wasn't expecting rocket science from this chick lit book, but I was expecting something more enjoyable than what I got. The three Sullivan sisters must write their confessions to their grandmother Almighty because the old coot cut them all out of her will. And so we get the plot through their confessions. One sister loves an older man and runs away from her cotillion. One sister tells all the family secrets on her blog and gets suspended from school for blasphemy. The other sister thinks she's immortal and believes she killed her step-grandpa. And that's about it. I never did get attached to any of the characters and didn't laugh at all while I read the book. It was light-hearted in parts, but just didn't reach me. Best part of the book is the cover!

it been goes in circles for a while, but overall is pretty well-written and entertaining (if mildly hard to deal with at times).

Reminded me of the movie Sliding Doors. How would your life be different if you chose to cheat on your partner? What if you didn't? Well written, not your typical chic-lit.

Good plot. Really interesting villian.

Ignatious J. Reilly is one of the MOST infuriating literary characters I have ever come across. I was certainly more frustrated than amused by his actions. I have to hand it to Toole for provoking these feelings.

Simenon's spare writing is one of the joys of his Maigret mysteries. In this book, the detective is searching for the young man who stole his revolver before it is used for mischief. A murder intervenes and Maigret ends up in London. This tale has an unusual twist as the murder and a blackmailer are not brought to justice although it appears that they will in the future. This is not one of my favorite Maigret's......it moves much slower than his usual stories and leaves some questions unanswered. But it is still worth reading, as are all of Simenon's books.

****Possible plot spoiler alert**** One of my favourite reads of 2006. Although the main character was very strong, his unique young view delivered well to the page by Liz Jensen, I found the other male characters very weak. The female characters, however, particularly the mother, were the opposite, very strong. I found myself falling for the mother, but shall say no more. Apparently the film rights to this work have been sold, which I can understand, but I think that Liz Jensen has more to offer. I will try her other work.

I really enjoyed the first of the Robert Langdon books Demons and Angels, and thought it was excellent, and The Da Vinci Code was pretty good, but this book struck me as boring and repetitive. It was too focused on Langdon's 'attractiveness'and his ignorance of it, explaining why hi is now on romance number three in as many books, and the overdone stretch that was the plot. I finished it and thought, 'Well, 2/3, not bad' and ended the series with an overall opinion that it was good, but imagine my surprise when I realized that there was, in fact, going to be another book. The series should have ended with The Da Vinci Code, I will not be continuing the series.

I can’t believe he ended the book with planes flying into the world trade center. Cop out and emotional short cut. One of his best books yet and he destroys it with a lame ending. Disappointing and still entertaining – I recommend it enough to have already loaned it out.
