Blah blah blah... This book was so not the revolutionary sex talk that Erica Jong was going for. I've been having more open and frank conversations about sex with my best friend, Kathie, since high school. All I really learned from this book (and what I expected all along)is that "feminists" are just as guy crazy, willing to give up their "power" for a man, and really just want someone to love and approve ofthem them as the rest of us normal women out there. Sorry girls, nothing new under the sun...

** spoiler alert ** ugh. Totally feel unresolved at the end of this book and overall it is my LEAST favorite of the three books. I think the fact that it was written from Katniss's P.O.V. hurt this book in that we were stuck in page after page of her downward spiral. I did NOT like that Prim was killed, even if it was a device to give Katniss motivation to kill Coin. The whole series started with her volunteering to take Prim's place and saving her life. Prim dying makes it feel like such a wasted. I sorta feel like it'd be better if the end was Prim avenging her sister's life, but again, stuck in the first person it's hard to do a jump like that. I would have loved to have seen backstory on more of the other characters, Finnick and Annie's relationship, Johanna's story, Wiress too. Also Katniss's parents. That would make a nice backstory too. With Peeta's father. OH WELL, WISHFUL THINKING. Or maybe fanfic.

In this book you live and suffer with several generations of the Hawthorne family, as they battle with persecution, exile and execution, that ends in a modern day massacre. This travesty is created and led by one man who has the power to motivate the masses to condemn what they didn't understand. It really makes you wonder how far people will truly go to prove that their religion is the best. Since the very beginning of time, the human race has tried to interpret, enforce and follow Gods law. They have instead, distorted, abused, and, disobeyed it for their own spiritual gain. This horrible reality has not improved at all over the centuries even though we claim to be more civilized. For some reason people are driven to exterminate anything that they don't understand in the name of their religion even if innocent lives are harmed in the process. This book reminds us that faith can be a very powerful thing for both good and evil and how you use that faith defines you as a person. I think that this book is well worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, romance, and historical fiction. I received this Pre-reader copy from the author.

Okay, I think what I like most about Unearthly is its characters. They are so refreshing! Clara has already known that she's part-angel, something really refreshing because we now have time to focus more on the real things instead of the major "OMG, I have angel blood!" epiphanies we find in other YA angel fiction. It's kind of nice. I really like her family, as well. We don't get a lot of her dad, but since this is a series (ha, why am I not surprised?), there's a lot of room for that later on. Clara's mother, Margaret or Meg, is not the cardboard mom you typically get. She's - get this - fun. And kind of badass. And so is Clara's brother Jeffrey. I like both Tucker and Christian equally. This is a bit of a surprise, since usually I'm very clear as to which male lead I prefer. This is not a typical love triangle, however. Tucker and Clara are into each other and Christian, well, to be honest, doesn't seemthat interested in Clara either. (view spoiler) Anyway, a lot of things Tucker does makes me want to hug him because he's just so completely ordinary. It's really refreshing because for once we're presented with a love interest who's not tall, dark and dangerous. Not that he isn't handsome, of course, because as Clara says, he's more "sexy-rugged" (whereas Christian is more "sexy-broody"). For once, our protagonist is interested in a nice boy. Make room, tortured heroes! I'm excited for Hallowed, of course, but it's such a long time from now until its publication date (2012!) that I'm just gonna store this in my head for much later.

This is a surprisingly complex book that joins the characters' lives, and readers' lives on many levels. I was continually surprised.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book. There is so much going on here...mothers and sons, a variety of marriages, "words". I love some of the secondary characters which are so well drawn...Peggoty, Aunt Betsey, Mr. Micawber, even Uriah Heep (a despicable fellow, but well-imagined by Dickens). It's said that this is the most autobiographical of Dickens' novels. It's certainly written with descriptions of places you know Dickens has seen. All in all, a wonderful book. Highly recommended.

Even if I weren't Polish, this book still would have broken my heart. It must have been insanely crushing to be a Pole fighting hard alongside the other Allies in World War II with one goal in mind - the return of your homeland's independence - and yet, despite being on the "winning" side, to have Churchill and FDR hand over your country for foreign occupation by Stalin (certainly with no legal authority to do so). This book tells the story well; not much previous knowledge of Polish history is required. Despite the title, only about half of it focuses in detail on the pilots of Kosciuszko Squadron in the Battle of Britain, while the other half gives plenty of context about the other Polish military troops, the in-country resistance movement, and the government-in-exile, describing how they fight bravely and how it comes to pass that they are denied the one thing they ask in return. This is a tragic story that makes it much harder to take freedom for granted - and to take "common knowledge" of history at face value.

This was definitely not what I expected. Good read nonetheless.
