Bill Bryson romanticizes the British national character, but this is an entertaining read. It's especially valuable if, like me, you've read tremendous amounts of fiction that take place in parts of England you've never visited. It's full of keen observations on misguided progress in the form of architectural flops, and the loss of countryside and historical buildings. I immediately wanted to book travel to Heathrow and hop on the first train out into the English countryside. [Listened to audiobook on my ipod:]

This is a good story! Four or five (Counting the dog) lives from the pass come together for a show down of death. Every main character has something in their past that brings them together. All are centered around a girl named HOPE and a rescue dog, named Nickie. Some strange stuff goes on in between this too. Supernatural stuff. Sometimes it fits with the story. Other times it seems ridiculous. I didn't like how Koontz ended the story. It read like a fairy tale. Everyone was shot or stabbed but the good guys "lived happily ever after" kind of thing.

This is my all-time favourite collection of classics that my piano teacher had given me at the Intermediate stage. The selection is perfect, the transcriptions easy to read and, best of all, my copy is so worn from use that I no longer have to force the pages open! Hurray!

I read this book after I saw "This Boy's Life" with Leonardo DiCaprio. Does anyone even remember that? I never read that book, but this book of short stories is pretty great (and is also by Tobias Wolff). Call it an extension of my love.

I've given this book four stars because it's addictive reading - fast paced and imaginative. Plus, who can say no to a love triangle, werewolves and a 'magic' school/home? This is definitely a different book than Nightshade, Calla is growing up. (And I officially cannot wait to see what happens in book 3 - team Ren all the way! Lol.) Most of my favourite characters returned in this book and I met some new ones I like a lot; Adne and Connor is one storyline I want to see develop. I felt that this book was driven by action, Ms Cremer didn't spend whole pages digging into the characters' pasts, or give us dinner table scenes where the only thing that happens is banter/friendships developing. Perhaps this is one reason why I didn't feel like I got to know the Searchers as well as I did the Guardians and Keepers. For example early on the various Searchers are simply described as 'men' - their ages and appearances downplayed. This book is funny, heart-poundingly good and a great weekend read. I'm not Shay's biggest fan though, I still cannot tell what Calla sees in him... Is this series still suitable for teens? I know some people will be asking that now... as with Breaking Dawn, perhaps younger teens should steer clear, but this series was always a little hot. :)
I loved the book. I even did the translation of the novel into Turkish...
My first ever Literature text. Miss Yeo taught us in Primary Four literary techniques like the repeated use of "and" instead of commas when describing the treats to be found in the county fair, as a means of emphasising plenty.

This was a really interesting read about the life of Waris Dirie, a semi well known super model. I had never heard of Waris before reading this book, but I must say her story is pretty incredible about how she came from the deserts of Africa to London before becoming a super model. I do wish that she would have written more about her modeling career as I don't know her that well, but overall this story is quite engaging. The book is definitely for an adult audience as the topic of female genital mutilation (female circumcision) is covered in detail. The whole subject is quite disturbing and like many, I didn't even know it occurred. Definitely recommend this book to others.
