"The Lock Artist" is a very unusual book, first it is told in the first person singular and secondly it is about a trade (Locksmith) that we often think about (especially when we lock our keys in our car) but seldom equate with crime. Michale has suffered a very traumatic experience at the age of eight. An experience the reader will not be aware of until the final chapters of the book. This experience has left him without a mother or a father. He has also become a select mute and has not uttered a word since the experience. He has been nicknamed; the Miracle Boy, the Golden Boy, the Milford Mute, the Young Ghost, the Boxman, and the Lock Artist during his life. At the age of eighteen Michael has found he has a talent for opening locks. He starts out with simple key locks, progresses to combination locks, and ends up with the extraordinary talent of being able to open just about any safe. A high school prank has put him in the employ of a man who discovers his talent and uses Michael as his ticket out of a very serious problem with a notorious underground figure. Michael also finds that he has fallen in live with the man's daughter, Amelia. Amelia and Michael both have a talent for art and find that they can communicate through pictures. Amelia knows that he father is in trouble and does not want Michael to becomes involved in any criminal activity. Michael feels he has no option other than to join these crooks that need his safecracking abilities. Michael must find a way to separate himself from this criminal enterprise and yet find a way to keep Amelia's father safe. A very good read that not only involves mystery but a true finding of oneself. A lesson in the hard knocks of life and being able to overcome tragedy, and in the end, although you may be able to overcomes all obstacles there will also be a price to pay for your transgressions.

I'm on a kick of reading several of Sayers's Lord Peter Wimsey stories after watching dramatizations of a few from the BBC/PBS people. They're a bit cheesy, and definitely light-hearted, as murder mysteries go. Lord Peter is sort of a Batman forerunner- he has skills and money and gear, but no mask. I like the characters in her stories quite a bit and hearing about Lord Peter's swinging life is lovely and full of fantasy wish fulfillment.
Karen Rose should have ended this trilogy at Book #2. I found myself slowly plodding through this one just waiting for it to end. Not anywhere near as good as the first two. This was just a foray to tie up loose ends in a long winded way.

Once again I wasn't disappointed! I thought I was going to cry after reading the sharpie and the vjay vjay story! I did get kind of frustrated with her preaching! I know I should wear sunscreen so move on! As a larva I except her wisdom but I so love the stories! Can't wait for more! Thank you Half Price books!!!!!

This book has my favorite quote ever "Sooner or later even the most ambitious glutton must crawl away and seek the solace of the vomitorium."

Tim Waggoner has expanded upon a previously released novella, Necropolis, to take readers on a wild ride with a zombie private eye name Matt Richter. Richter lives in a shadowy realm known as Nekropolis that is made up of various beings such as vampires, lykes, demons, etc... Richter meets up with Devona, a half-vampire, who is distraught about losing a special artifact of her father's called the Dawnstone. Richter offers to help her retrieve said artifact. Of course, that's easier said than done, and Matt and Devona run into all sorts of trouble along the way! Nekropolis is an urban fantasy that also weighs heavily on the mystery angle. Waggoner did a wonderful job with this story and I'm thrilled to hear that there will be two follow-up novels. Waggoner’s writing is very descriptive. While reading I was able to picture all of the various beings included in the story and see them battling it out. Nekropolis would be a great addition to any library. Fans of the paranormal will also enjoy Nekropolis, as it crosses several genres. Recommended. Contains: Mild Violence, Drug Usage, Profanity (Review also posted on MonsterLibrarian.Com)
PERFECT resource for the hardcore HP fan.
