I was somewhat disappointed in the ending, but all in all, it was a great read.

This book is an excellent introduction to anyone wanting to grow in self-awareness and spirituality. It sets the foundation for being present to ones feelings, allowing for emotional clearing. It's a good book that helps move to the heart (feeling center) those who are lost in their heads, avoiding feeling. If you like this book, agree with the premise and want to work on emotional clearing on your own, I highly recommend the work of John Ruskan, both his book Emotional Clearing and his 12 CD practice session at www.emclear.com.

O'brian captures the heart of darkness of the vietnam conflict with this series of short stories related to his time in the war. Unlike most books on the subject, this book is not about the war itself, but rather the effect of war on the psyche of a man who ostensibly is a warrior, but has the presence of mind to find and embrace existentialism in the most unlikely of places. O'brian takes us through several surreal beckett esque experiences and shares with us some of his most personal epiphanies. Every student of literature should read this book as an example of personal first person expression, as well as non linear narrative plot progression.

The greatest shame is that there is no picture for the cover of this/these book(s). The rugged depictions of Var the Stick and Sol the Rope are worth any purchase price. If that doesn't entice you see the aforementioned character names; can you resist such a literary onslaught?

A fascinating glimpse into the man who created the first truly American fairy tale--the Wizard of Oz. The author does a good job comparing Baum's writings against the backdrop of what was happening in the country during the same time period.

The travel diary companion to the funniest television show I've ever seen. I have become obsessed with Karl Pilkington. And I like it. Read the book, but also watch the show.
I have more to say about this one than any of them besides the last, probably because it's my favorite of the books that takes place at Hogwarts and it is the longest of the series and pretty densely packed. Harry is so angry in this book, and as I get older I realize more and more how exceptionally angry he is. He's constantly rude and short with his friends, spends a good deal of time brooding, though by the conclusion you get the feeling the dam has burst somewhat, or maybe rather that the fever's finally broken. In terms of his overall character arc, maybe no other book marks such a defined transition for him, and that is richly explored here, even if it is consistently frustrating due to all that anger. Umbridge is the second worst villain of this series, and certainly draws a much more visceral hate out of me than Voldemort does. I love how political this one gets, and that the primary conflict revolves around bureaucracy and media control. Harry's continually growing awareness of the fallibility of his friends and the adults he looks up to is front and center here, which is fitting both for where the overall story is and for the fact that this is novel about a 15-year-old boy. Rowling's writing style is at its finest here, adverbs and all, and is noticeably more fluid than book four's occasionally workmanlike prose. The conclusion of this book has never hit me as hard as it did this time, and it's my fifth time reading it. The whole series is about, among other things, the power of love and the way people think about death, and this entry explores those topics more deeply than any other besides the last. The last act of this book is probably the most exhilarating action writing Rowling does in the whole series. More so than any of the previous four, during this rereading I'm working on, this one had me impatient to find time to keep reading. It's a propulsive novel, even though it seems like it wouldn't be. I don't have much of a conclusion. On to the next.

Not sure why but this one didn't do as much for me as the last one. I still enjoyed it but not one of my faves. Going to continue with the series however, just see if I like where he's headed Formal Review up: http://saraisbookchallenges.blogspot....
