This was a good book to listen to despite the sadness toward the end. It tells how simple and sometimes difficult life was during that time, but also has a humorous touch. I'd like to read or listen to more of his books.

Great explanation of doing things you love and sharing them with others. Even if they seem reluctant at first they may enjoy the gesture and return the favor.

This was yet another fantastic story. I find it amazing that such a long running series becomes neither repetitive nor stale.

I've had this sitting in my to-read list for a few months now, all the while thinking it sounded familiar. Then I read a review on it and realized I did read it back in 2007 for book club. I very much enjoyed it too. What worries me is where my memory is going.

4.7 I believe there must be a rule that says all knew Steampunk novels must start off slow, involve automatons serving food and then trying to kill you and explosions with large scale destruction. On that note, this story follows Eliza Braun and Wellington Brooks, both agents of the crown with opposite personalities and interests. Wellington is safe and seemingly tamping down on some wicked past psychological issues while Eliza is ignoring her past and living life with the veneer of living it to the fullest. She is brazen and daring he is the epitome of stiff upper lip. Of course that just makes it all the more fun. There is an attraction, both of curiousity and a bit ... more. There were parts of the book where it seems that the writers forget to add how something happened. Meaning, if one of the characters was inside of a room, there was nothing to previously indicate that they walked into a room. Which disconnected me a few times. It doesn't happen too often but it happened enough for me to notice. The mystery could've been a bit more ... mysterious but as they were solving a cold case (unlike what the description implies) I suppose all the mystery is sort of gone. This book is character driven and is mostly told from Wellington's point of view. Eliza has a few chapters and I wish she had a bit more. What was also a little disconcerting was the POV of other characters that I don't care about. Also, within those chapters that were told by the other characters plot points and future mysteries were told that IMHO shouldn't have been. Either way, it had action, it had a smattering of romance and it had two solid leads that I'm very interested in finding out more from.

Title story is an all-time great. The rest of these didn't stick with me as strongly -- sometimes felt a little tricksy -- but the first story is worth the entire price of admission.

What a way to be surprised! I just felt in love with this brothers way too hard, I can't seem to get enough! I haven't been this gleefully and emotional about a series in this genre for way too long. It's not that it is one of those reads that will take your breath away because it's too emotive to bare, it's just a short and realistic type of read. I adore the books in this series because they are fun, fast paced and the romance is AMAZING. I never liked Nora Roberts till I started this series, now I can really comprehend why everybody loves her this much. She has an amazing writing style, one that makes me wanna read more and more. In this installment we get to read about our hot and sexy MacKade lawyer. I must admit I was really sad because book 2 would be about him. I just wanted to read about Dev first, the Sheriff. For some reason I though Jared wouldn't be as compelling, but boy was I wrong. I just had a blast of a time with this book. I loved the hero and the heroine so much. And I must admit I have a huge soft spot for stories with young kids on it, I just love to get different perspectives of the story and when we read about the way a boy of 9 years old sees it how can't we love the book? I know the read seems short but I swear I feel I get much more from it than from most of the reads I have been reading lately. I haven't been this in love with a cont-romance series since the Chicago Stars series, and those who follow my reviews know how much I loved those books. I think that I got to love this series so much after the second book because now I can say the characters in it are really different from each other and unique. I love that about books, when an author is able to create different characters with their own personalities. This way they just seem more real, and those are the type of books I enjoy the most. I just really wanna recommend the books in it to you all guys! Specially because I usually can't stand to read many books in the same genre on a row but now I just can't stop. That's when I know a book is really good, because it's not humanly possible for me to let it go.

This story is hilarious! And I'm a huge fan of humor, so this was an awesome read. Sophie is quick, witty and is not afraid to speak her mind. I love Archer Cross and know there must be something behind the scenes with him. Can't wait to figure out what it is. And dying to meet Sophie's dad and find out the story behind him. I have a feeling there are vast and interesting stories behind most if not all the characters in the Hex Hall series, and it'll be fun and full of laughs to figure out what those stories are. On to Demonglass!

The biggest problem that I had with this series is getting my son to go to bed at night! I can't count the times that I caught him sitting up with a flash light trying to read. That is the way that books should captivate our children's minds. Thank you Rick Riordan!

too cute? maybe. but I enjoyed the feel-good, slightly awkward romance.
