A short, but interesting read. Illustrates how a man and woman who socially form an apparent romantic bond, are nevertheless incomaptible in their intimate and sexual lives.

This is an awesome book on baking whole grain breads. Chock full of info. There's even a section on sprouting your own grains for bread. I can't wait to try it!

Our book club just read this book. It reminded me a lot of The Glass Castle, but this one was much more depressing. It was heartwrenching how the author and her sister had to take care of themselves when they were young. Their mother was so mentally ill she was a danger to herself and to them. Also very frustrating that there didn't seem to be any services to help the mother get well or to take care of the girls. The author speaks very lovingly of her mother despite it all. I think she understands that it is an illness and not something her mother could help. As someone else in our group said, maybe this would have been easier to read in the summer and not in cold and cloudy February!
Hardcore Christians might find lots of it offensive, but I definitely found it highly delightful reading. Anyone has the right to spin any yarn, and when its as engrossing and imaginative as this, its well worth the read.

It was good- however it kept putting me to sleep! :) I guess there just wasn't enough going on in the book to keep me awake late at night.
Un peu ras le bol des combats qui n'en finissent pas et n'apportent rien à l'histoire.
Yuck. Boring, inane, so glad I read htis on the kindle so no trees were chopped down for this crap.

When Father Art Breen is accused of molesting a young boy, he's immediately sent away from the parish. Everyone assumes he's guilty, even his brother. There are two people who are reserving judgment: his mother, who swears he didn't do it, and his sister Sheila, who wants to believe in his innocence. I tend to love issue-driven books, which this is, but it's not just a lurid, ripped-from-the-headlines type book. It's more about the effect that a catastrophic event has on a family; we only know Art in a secondhand way. We see how it hurts Mike that he can't defend his brother and how, even though he's not sure Art is innocent, he still bristles when his wife slams Catholics in general because of the actions of the priests. (This is set in 2002, as well, so there are a lot of accusations around.) We also see how Sheila feels guilty for not being closer (both literally and emotionally) to her family. And we follow as she attempts to piece together what really happened from all the different perspectives, clues and suspicions. This is a wonderful book. Recommended.
