Love this author and another book of her's "The Patron Saint of Butterflies." She tackles difficult topics and does not disappoint as she deftly combines plot with major character development. I couldn't put this one down. Although targeted for YAs/Teens, it's very appropriate for adults as well.

It was very difficult for me to rate this book. Some days it would be a 5 and others a two. Some parts of the book were brilliant and unputdownable and others it was a struggle to read. It was hard to read at times and the ending with Little Time was devastating. Little Time's maturity and outlook caused more emotions for me than I felt for Jude or Sue. I struggled to see why Jude fell in love with Sue - especially after Arabella who was by far the stand out adult character in this entire novel. I think it's fascinating to read how critics believe this book is loosely modelled on Thomas Hardy's life. I hope it wasn't. I hope he was happier than Jude was.

I was disappointed with this book. I thought it would be funny and cute and full of different random moments of their year living alone. But the blurb is deceiving. This was not any of those things. The whole book focuses on sex. Well, maybe not the whole thing, but most of it. It was about how April and Vi are deciding whether to do it or not and all that. Mostly everything they did focused around sex and relationships, specifically April's relationship to Hudson. It's very typical and nothing special.
