Socrates in his finest form.
This is a fast and enjoyable read. My best comparison is that it is like a German version of High Fidelity.

Illinois libraries chose this book for their "Big Read" of 2011. It's nonfiction fiction, think along the lines of Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood." The facts are there, but you also have to give the author some amount of creative license to be able to do his job. This is the story of Hurrican Katrina and "Zeitoun" the last name of the main character from Syria, who lives and works in New Orleans as a contractor. After the flood hits, he stays behind to rescue people in his canoe. He gets arrested inside his own house for looting and is jailed for 2 weeks, without being allowed a phone call, where he is questioned by Homeland Security for being a terrorist. Eggers can do no wrong anyways, but the fact that this is actually a true story kind of makes it a must read.

In the beginning, I love this book. I was looking forward to read another chapter. The story about Jin, Andie and Cora is very interesting, and the writer's words was very easy to digest. Unfortunately... she closed this story with 'strange ending'... Jin was love Kevin to death... but why suddenly she changed her mind? Jin was only think about baby for weeks, why did she become so obsessed about it??? Sheila should have written more about this conflict! Why was Cora so calm about the fact that Jack was an escort? How could she cope with the death of his husband and then fell in the feet of a guy who half of her age? And the most awkward moment was when Jin was so upset and Kevin was so angry... but suddenly all of them could sit together and interviewed Jack! And then suddenly Jin decided to leave kevin. soooooo strange. but that was my opinion, so... what do you think???

this was a hard book to get into. I felt I was dropped into the 3rd chapter without any setup, and from there took me to 1/3 of the way before I could feel I was following the story. That said, once there I quickly carried on and finished it.
