There were some great sentences, but overall it seemed like you need to be Russian-American, a Democrat and Jewish to fully appreciate the book. The male characters blurred together. The ending was a bit sweet and redeeming.

Another great addition to the series! The Potter universe is getting darker with the addition of Dementors. I just love Rowling's creative names, they're unique but similar to words we already know. I especially love character names, you can tell she has fun thinking them up. The story felt more complex, but in a really good way. A tad too much exposition, which tends to really slow down the pace of a book for me, but you get some great insight into Harry's past, or rather his parent's past. Some great and loveable new characters. I enjoyed the ending.

This book had some good action and a neat plot, but dragged a little with the love subplot. I did have a tough time getting past the style in which it was written. I'm sure it will make a good movie as it really felt to me like it was written more like a screenplay.

A friend had purchased the first 3 books in the U.K. She traveled frequently and I picked up her mail, watered the plants, etc. On one trip I asked if I could read the 3 Harry Potter books. I was starting to hear a lot about them. I gobbled them all up! By the time I finished book 3 I was a serious Harry Potter fan! I could not wait for more.
