This book was wonderful, although the end was so sad. I'm very excited about reading the other books in the series!

Its funny, how people either love this book or hate it. if you want to know the truth, I don't know what to think about it. Just the way holden didn't. At some part of the book I thought caulfield was the luckiest kid on earth, then I pitied him, then I hated him, then I fell inlove with him. Now? I don't know. While reading this book I had an incident though; we were in this shopping center, and suddenly the people all around me started on looking super phony and pointless. It depressed the hell out of me and we had to leave immediately. I'm not saying anything... Also we were talking about holden with my psychiatrist and he pointed out his (obvious) loneliness but even worse his anger. Eventhough my psychiatrist is convinced otherwise I find my and holdens anger pretty similar. I also see his confusion about people, about his future and the sad thing is I see it cuz I have the same confusion. Anyways, eventhough I gave this book 5 stars, its cuz I give every book 5 stars. I don't know what to give this book.

although robert jordan is no longer around to continue this series, i think that brandon sanderson did a great job. it took a bit for me to get back into reading this series, as it had been a couple years since i had read any of it, but once i started remembering the characters and how they interacted, i got more interested. it took me a while to read this, but it was definitely worth it and can't wait to get more into the towers of midnight, the 13th book in this series.

I highly recommend this to anyone who loves historical fiction. Idelfonso Falconesa brings medieval Catalonia alive, weaving the construction of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Mar with the story of Arnau Estanyol as he rises from peasant to lord.

I have a few qualms with this book. The biggest is that, although Bonilla-Silva claims that pathologizing the internalization of racist beliefs in moral terms is problematic, in areas of the book in which he measures subjects' responses via a standard of "purity," he does just that. Within his analysis, he also allows that the structural has an influence over the cultural but does not grant these concepts a reciprocal relationship. Otherwise quite insightful, however.

Written before the Second World War, this is a children's story of its time. A simpleton, conned by promises of adventure and riches by a spin doctor, sets off into the wilds with a party of mercenary ethnics to reclaim what they say belolnged to them in the first place. In their quest they meet and are almost bested by SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. Whether this book is seen as the necesary scene setter for LOTR, or as a stand alone, this is a marvellous read. It reads like it has just been written down by an anthropologist who records verbal tales to prevent their being loss. It seems written to be read aloud and I loved reading it to my children. On a deeper level there is a morality within the tale about "just desserts" which does not detract from the exuerance of the story.

One of the strangest King's books. I felt like he showed me a candy and then he hid it away... and didn't give it to me, which is not a thing that a novelist should do. I felt disappointed because the good and interesting start went away. A little bit weird piece ot psychology of the 60's didn't save the rest. Sorry, Mr. King.

i actually read this first as an undergrad., but i returned to it for comprehensive exams and again now for dissertation work. she weaves poststructural theory into her discussions of the teaching of writing in ways i can only hope to over the next few months of diss. writing.
