So much better than the movie.

This is the second book that I have read by this author. I enjoyed the mystery part of it very much but I also really liked learning more about life in a different part of the world. It seems that books written by authors from the Scandinavian countries encompass a certain bleakness of climate and personality that I find very intriguing. The characters are interesting, sometimes morose but always unusual. I can't wait to read more by Indridason.

I am a hug fan of all of Karen Katz's books.

To tell you the truth, I am confused about this book, I am still trying to figure out who did it. All I have been able to do is look up reviews and join this group. If anyone read this book, can you please tell me who the killer is I am still confused. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Pretty good storyline except for Gabe and his girlfriend , TMI. Is this what high school kids are like? shudder.....

It took me two tries to get through this book. The first time, I read about 1/4 of it and hated the characters. I abandoned it and forgot all about it. Years later, I found it in my book pile and tried again. I found it easier to bear the second time around. The characters are obnoxious but kept me interested. I didn't love it, but I am glad I actually finished it.

Dystopian, check. I really liked this book. The dystopian world the author created isn't so vastly different from reality...with the exception of federally mandated lobotomies to cure the population of the disease that love is. It's not just a tweeny love story, not the way I read it. Lena isn't the typical rebel; she believes in the history of her world and doesn't just change her mind in a pitter-patter heartbeat when she sees a cute boy. She's believable. And the "cure" shows the loss of humanity in all relationships, not just romantic. I appreciated the friendships, family, and even the broad theme that "growing up" means leaving behind dreams and happiness in favor of comfort and security.

Full Review will come eventually. Some basics though: I was a little bored for the first third of the book then when the pace picked up I was happily surprised and very entertaining. The characters all have their own voices and I was like, "YES BOOK-LONG PLOT I MISSED YOU."

Light reading but enjoyable - I don't regret my time spent reading it, but it certainly won't change my life.

a collection you might always keep at your bedside table. i've been reading it for about 3 years straight, maybe. contains a really diverse collection of authors, introduced by fellow poet catherine bowman (who is really great). all poems and poets featured in the book were at one point featured on the npr program "all things considered" in their poetry section, "all poets considered", as selected and introduced by bowman. includes poets young and old, traversing the globe (as well as america, i might say). it's fresh.
