it was amazing but the last 15 pages or so were really disappointing
** spoiler alert ** When I saw how many Mystery Book Awards this novel won the year it was published, I was confident I couldn't go wrong. Well, I went wrong. I guess the problem stems from the fact that I like to be able to figure out mysteries with the protagonist... if there is a murder, I expect the murderer to be a character I met somewhere in the novel and I will be able to follow the clues along with our hero/heroine to catch the bad guy. Not so with Postmortem. You fly through 350 pages only to catch the so-called murderer, who is some regular old joe that you never once crossed paths with. Maybe she is trying to give the story "realism", but I'm sorry... I grew up in the Law and Order generation. I want to solve some crimes.

I haven't read the first Little Blue Truck book, maybe that would make me appreciate this one better. Shows an unfriendly city and talks about taking things a little slower, but ultimately not a lot happens in a lot of words.

I just read it to see what all the fuss was about. At this point, I'd imagine it reads a little dated.
This was a very interesting read. I think most mothers would find this book worthwhile to read, even if to argue with Chua's parenting style. But there is something to be said for supporting your child's education and teaching her that hard work pays off.
The title for this book, Women Food and God is a bit deceiving. The book is not so much about women, food, and God or even the relationships that women have with food and God. It is really more about the relationship we have with ourselves and learning to treat ourselves with gentleness and love. This book really resonated with me. Like many women, in my mind I have an ideal weight for myself. Unfortunately, I think I passed that ideal weight sometime in my teens and haven't seen it since. Listening to this book has made me rethink why I want that ideal weight. Will thinner arms really make that much of a difference in my life? I don't think I am a shallow person, yet somehow I have it stuck in my mind that being thinner would make me better. So instead of berating myself for eating all the chocolate eggs for my daughter's Care package, I need to pause, breathe and reflect on why I want to snack or web surf mindlessly. Definitely some thing to think about.

I loved this book and I don't know if I can adequately describe why. All I can really say is that I would definitely recommend it and that I just wanted to hug Oskar.
Because of this book's subject matter--birdwatching--I can't seem to persuade anyone to give this book a try. But The Big Year is much more about human behavior than avian antics. The book is filled with quirky, obsessed characters who will do almost anything to edge out their fellow birders. I found this to be one of the most delightful books I've read in recent years. The books is funny and suspenseful, even if you don't care much for birds or birders.

This isn't the copy I read but it will do as my copy was lost some time ago and I fear it's out of print :( Suffice to say that the classic tales of Aesop have stayed with me throughout my life and I truly adored reading them as a kid. One of my favourite book of stories that I plan to share with my future children.
