read this in NYC and it opened my eyes and heart to the people that lived through 911 in NYC - the narrative is so innocent and yet so strong. (the story of a little genius boy that lost his dad in 911. He is on quest to discover something about his deceased father that takes him all over the burroughs of the city. i loved this book!

Ahhh...what joy to not be able to put a book down! This book, the second in the Millennium trilogy from Swedish author Stieg Larsson, did not disappoint for a moment. I really enjoyed the first book - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - but found this one to be even more enjoyable as I learned more about the characters and got deeper in to their stories. Very well written and highly recommended!

I listened to this on CDs in the car over a period of a couple weeks and loved it. I find hearing a book read aloud is a very different experience from reading it myself: while listening I tend to revert to childhood and just enjoy the flow of the story, without being as analytical or critical. I didn't even notice the strong Hamlet resemblance until near the end, and didn't worry about all the plot elements that got introduced and went nowhere. I did hate the ending but given that the author was rewriting Hamlet, I guess he felt he had no choice.

I am now, officially, in love with Dave Eggers. A friend gave me this book for my birthday nearly three months ago, and I only just picked it up and actually read the thing. Eggers style is savvy, poetic and enthralling. I was captivated from start to finish. I really did love this book.
Let me quote another reader on this site: (sorry, Beatriz) I got sick of Gabaldon's Outlander series after the 3rd book, but I can't get enough of the Lord John series. His character was one of the things that interested me in the original series, so I'm so glad she decided to flesh him out. He's a fascinating character, very conflicted and believable. I can't wait for the next Lord John novel but unfortunately she's now working on yet another Outlander novel. Word. Word. Word. My trouble with reading Gabaldon's series is it's given rise to a desire on my part that I know will never be satisfied: I'm very fond of Lord John, and I want him to have a chance with Jamie Fraser. Which (I am sane enough to know) is one thing Diana Gabaldon will never write, not just because she doesn't want to, but because millions of her faithful Outlander readers would never accept it. Oh well. Anybody know if there's well-written fanfic out there? :-)
The Hunt – A Nice Twist to Vampire Lore Rating: 4 of 5 stars Author: Linell Jeppsen Format: Kindle, Paperback Orphaned and terrified after witnessing the brutal slaying of his family at the hands of two vampires, Raphael prepares for his life to be taken next. In a moment of weakness, however, the female vampire decides instead to turn Rapheal in to a half-breed – an unheard of atrocity in vampire society. Not having the wings and other physical characteristics of a full bred vampire, Raphael does, however, inherit their longevity, strength, and special powers after being turned. As the centuries pass, Raphael grows in influence making enemies of some while the very future of the vampire race hangs in his hands. Linnell Jeppsen’s “The Hunt” takes an interesting twist to vampire lore chronicling the plight and downfall of full blooded vampires as a distinct race whose evolution has stalled threatening their extinction. Told through multiple story arcs both in the past and present, all threads converge to a climactic and satisfying ending. The most enjoyable arc for me and the one I choose to highlight in my summary, is Raphael’s story. The sacrifices and hardships he endured while carrying the responsibility given him by the vampire king along with the dialogue, emotions, relationships, and descriptions were more engaging and real to me than those in the present day between Brian and Holly – two humans used by Rapheal’s enemies to exploit his weakness. None-the-less, all arcs work well and compliment one another to move the story forward. I enjoyed “The Hunt”. It is a quick read and the rotation among the various stories kept the action and suspense moving nicely. For those who enjoy vampire novels, this will make a nice addition to your collection at $3.99 on kindle. Note: A complementary copy of this work was provided in return for a review.

Fascinating premise, and likable characters.
I thought this book was great. The mother character was interesting, to say the least, and the relationship between the dad and the daughter was very complex. My mom did not like this book at all, but I thought that the relationships between all the family members were intriguing.

I was surprised to find this book at Good Vibrations. Of course, I love Isabel Allende so I just had to have the book. The book talks about the explicit and not so explicit relationship between food and sexuality through Allende-style anecdotes. As you can imagine it was a very colorful read. Really great food history facts! Haven't tried the recipes in the back but they sure sound tasty!
