** spoiler alert ** Confusing and rambling. The cover is lovely, the story is lovely, but I spent my time reading it going back because what I was reading just didn't make sense with what I'd read previously. For example, we have Mirasol's memory of the week before the faenorn, how she had no sleep and she was so tired, etc etc etc, and you get the impression that she was sitting around in her cottage doing nothing and not sleeping, and then after all that we go back and learn about every single thing that ever happened during the week before the faenorn. We hear about every single drop of water that she dropped as she wandered on and got no sleep. Why didn't we hear about the Chalice ritual thing dropping of water first, and then her memories of being tired? And of course there's the flashbacks, in the middle of important happenings, that just end up confusing you about whether or not you're actually reading about what's going on, or some random thing that happened years before. Another thing that I disliked was the constant repeating that Mirasol used to be just a small lowly woodskeeper who had the position of Chalice thrust upon her with no warning at all, and she had no training, and she didn't know anything and it was so hard for her and she had to do so much reading. We get it. Can we move on now? We don't really care. And then the dialogue, lots and lots of dialogue. By the time someone finishes talking, you've forgotten who's speaking and have to go back 16 pages to figure out who's talking and what they're talking about and why are they talking to each other anyway? And then there's another 16 pages of the other person replying to the first person, and by the time you're finished with them, you're confused all over again. 16 pages is an exaggeration. Exaggerating makes me feel better. I did like the story. It just wasn't written very well. Mirasol was an interesting character, and I loved the bees, however unrealistic their actions might be. I'm not very fond of bees, and I think I'm allergic to them, but Mirasol's bees were fascinating. I fear my review has ended up as confusing and rambling as Chalice was, but really, after reading it, my brain is whirling and how can I ever be expected to write coherently again?

This was helpful to better understand what sugar does in our bodies. I have noticed some improvements in one of my kids by making sure there is more protein in the diet, and had plenty of chances during Easter parties to see the effects of candy/blood sugar spikes and drops. It's caused me to be more aware of sugar content and consumption in our home. Some of the information didn't seem to match up with other literature I've been reading about the need to limit our eating of animal products, but I think it is worth the read. Especially if you have a sugar loving kid with some behavior issues.

I did this like this better than the first in the series. The storyline was good and great side stories with Sam/Tracy. It did have some suspenseful moments..even some tears towards the end. BUT, it was still just a 'like...3 stars'. Every time Gabe and Mattie got together..they had sex. I'm all for some great scenes and there were scences but it felt like every time they got together..that's what they did..kinda got old after a while...they were like rabbits! LOL! Was a good/fast read but could have been better. I'll read Dev's book because I'm intrigued and I have it. If it wasn't for having all 3 books, not sure I'd go out and buy the next sort of thing.

The audio book is very good. I don't know if I would have read the book otherwise.

(3 1/2 stars) I read this for my Hamlet in Performance class. While I didn't think it was great literature, I did find it incredibly amusing. Many people in my class disliked the play, especially how Blessing has absolutely no subtlety. But I loved the blatancy of it all - Hamlet's stuck inside a tv, they bring the Oedipal thing smack out into the open, and the castle basically is its own character. Plus it's funny.

I am not into Sci-fi, but my husband is and he got me to listen to this book. To my surprise I really liked this book, it was fun to listen to and interesting. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it the same if I had read it, but the narrator was great and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

This is my favorite book of all time. I cried so hard at the end. It's hard to believe that this is her first novel. Everyone should read this.
Started but was very weird, which is funny given the context of the prior novels, but this one seems more disjointed in the narrative. I got a little tired of it and returned to the library. Perhaps to pick up again one day.
