Okay so this book, for me, was the perfect ending to the Jessica Darling series. I found myself very attached to these characters and really loved having the final book told from the omniscient narrator viewpoint. Reading this book felt like watching those indie romance movies I love (like 500 Days of Summer and Amelie). Overall, I'm not certain this book series needed five novels, but I'd highly recommend them to anyone nonetheless.

This one is really cool in the way they include the comic with the story. I loved it. The made for TV movie was horrible though, don't even try to watch it.

It took me a while to get into but it picked up towards the end.

This book was difficult to read, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It just hit a little too close to home with many of the events that happened through the course of the girls' friendship in the book. I really enjoyed Leah Stewart's writing style--it was simple, straightforward prose, and carried along at a perfect pace. The characters were interesting and complex, and I found myself liking even the distasteful characters in the story. I especially related to the main character, Cameron, and her experiences forced me to take a fresh look at a dissolved friendship from my own past. Highly recommended!

I liked this book but I was disappointed because the heroine wasn't as tough in this one as the first one. She was always scared and hurt and confused.
Excellent book for anyone with children, especially strong-willed children. Not so much a how-to parenting book, but more of a understanding how your child thinks and some awesome general parenting concepts. Even though I've been blessed that neither of my children are strong-willed, there were many good parenting lessons in it. It also helps me to understand the children of my friends who are strong-willed. As a side-note, the author was my youth group leader in high school!

This was a haunting book and largely well written. The alternating POV was pretty annoying though and often contrived. And actually, I wish it had not been so heavily plotted. What made this book sing was not the action so much as it was the place and the feeling it evoked and described. I love the Mon Valley and had the chance to spend some time there and so reading this modern day account of life after steel was just striking. That said, there is always a danger in projecting your thoughts and feelings onto a community from which you are not a part. I don't know enough about the author's background to be sure, but at times some of the things the characters said and did felt wrong somehow. Despite all those points, something about this really stuck with me and really pulled me in. And it's the sort of book that leaves something behind.
