I know I'm seriously in the minority here, and that's fine, but I found this absolutely excruciating to dredge through. I was hesitant to pick this up because I dislike erotica, but the temptation of seeing into the characters' pasts and missing moments was too much. I assumed there would be actual plot among all the sex. 'Twas not so. I enjoyed the short snippet of Seregil meeting Micum, but it was little more than a palate cleanser between all the sex in the rest of the stories. I found myself wincing in embarrassment the entire time and skipping whole scenes of nothing but sex. It is possible to write love scenes well, but these were not. Ms. Flewelling has said herself, in her journal, that she doesn't feel confident writing erotica and is in fact embarrassed by it, and it shows through in her writing. With the first three books of the series being fantastic, the fourth abysmal, the fifth mediocre, and now this, I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth picking up book 6 next year, or if I should just stop and pretend the first 3 are all there is. (Edited to add: can fantasy authors please stop making egregious errors with regards to hunting? Why would a hunter track a mother cat and her kits, first of all, and why shoot one of the kits? No meat to eat and no pelt to use. C'mon people. Everyone does this!)

The first essay in this book was amazing, but I ended up setting it down and getting wrapped up in schoolwork before I could finish it, and now it's in Illinois, and I'm in California. But the first piece is an amazing look at the essentially colonizing act of American corporations and scientific knowledge on Indian agriculture and indigenous knowledge.

Good story with a few surprises. A girl is conceived as a donor match for her sister with a rare leukemia. At age 13 she wants it to stop and files a lawsuit for medical emancipation. The author is clever with twists and we find out at the end that it's the older sister who's asked her to do this - she wants to die. That was great but then Picoult kills the healthy sister in a car crash and thus the kidney is donated after all and the older sister lives. Very depressing and far too melodramatic an ending. and the point is? Doubt thou that the stars are fire; Doubt thou that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt that I love. -from Hamlet

Much darker than the others.
This is an excellent book. I read about two-thirds of it. I found it scary and depressing. The honest leaders of Teamsters locals could never rise up to the lead the whole union. Hoffa, etc., including those who probably killed him hijacked the union movement and helped turn Americans against unions. Who can represent the common citizen? Government, that thing that Lincoln described as being of, by and for the people, is under such heavy attack today that I fear our lives will be completely dominated by corporations. Depressing.
one of my all-time favorite kids' books! it made me cry...

Some of the most well-written exerpts of any piece of literature I've ever read.

Despite what the cheesy title would have you believe, this book does not contain a bogus scheme to become an instant millionaire. Instead, it is a practical personal finance book tailored toward recent college graduates who are just entering the real world. Ramit does a great job instructing readers how to accomplish personal finance goals. Many other pieces of financial advice I've come across advise what to do but not how to do it. Ramit, however, provides the reader with dead-simple instructions complete with internet URLs so anyone can follow along. Unfortunately, Ramit's tongue-in-cheek jokes get annoying as the book progresses and I often found myself disliking his tone. Furthermore, while the book offers great advice, it is nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, I found I was already doing nearly everything he suggested before reading the book. However, for people who have not yet taken time to optimize their finances or begun using the wealth of online financial tools, this book contains some good pieces of advice.
