I read this book my first month in New York and it scared the hell out of me. I almost packed up and moved home.

Survivor of the Jamestown massacre becomes the 'saviour' and starts purging Sweden, with the kind of brutality associated with religious fundamentalism. But this is invented not researched so seems an irrelevance. The father-daughter detective team enjoys fierce tempers. None of the characters nor the grey setting appealed.

I wish there was another shelf for books I'm re-reading to rate, like Inkspell, Harry Potter, etc... anyway! I read this book in, what, 2006? I remembering seeing it in my school's library- I liked orange when I was nine/ten so maybe that's why I picked it up. When I read the blurb I immediately thought 'Hell yes!' It was written by a fourteen year old! That's awesomazing (awesome+amazing- yeah I spoke like that)! And, to be honest, to this day *insert meaningful gaze here* this book is why I decided someday I was going to be an author. Cause, hell, this Romanian-French girl could do it. I sure could. ^That was the nine/ten year old me talking, I'm definitely not that cocky anymore. Anyway, checked out the book, got home, read it. Disliked it. It's funny because even before I could remember the title (had to Google 'three opals novel' and hope for the best) I always remembered the whole 'Death one strike thing'. The phrase haunted me for ages. I don't know why but it did! I remember not liking the book, not even finishing it. Whatever. Retry!
The most amazing play I have EVER seen!
This series is like candy sitting out on the counter...it's no good, you know you shouldn't but you gobble it up anyways. Irresistable once you start reading.

My least favorite of the Irving novels I've read. Irving's books don't typically have storybook endings, but this one was just really depressing.

On Lily Sanderson’s eighteenth birthday she’ll become just a girl—still a mergirl, true, but signing the renunciation will ink Princess Waterlily of Thalassinia out of existence. That leaves plain old Lily living on land, dating the boy she loves, and trying to master this being-human thing once and for all. Now that Lily and Quince are together, mer bond or not, she’s almost content to give up her place in the royal succession of Thalassinia. But just when she thinks she has everything figured out, the waves start to get rough. Lily’s father sends a certain whirlpool-stirring cousin to stay with her on land. What did Doe do to get herself exiled from Thalassinia and stuck in terraped form when everyone knows how much she hates humans? And why why why is she batting her eyelashes at Lily’s former crush, Brody? The seafoam on the raging surf comes when a merboy from Lily’s past shows up—Tellin asks Lily for something that clouds her view of the horizon. There’s a future with Quince on land, her loyalty to the kingdom in the sea, and Lily tossing on the waves in the middle. Will she find a way to reconcile her love, her duty, and her own dreams? Tera Lynn Childs’s sequel to Forgive My Fins offers another tail-flicking romance with plenty of fun, sun, and underwater adventure. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ when lily turns 18, she will be just a girl..a mer-girl, all the same. she also has to start worrying about colleges to go to and other mumble jumble things that every girl has to deal with.at least she has her boyfriend quince that she loves very much. lilys grades arnt really high enough to get into a college unless she aces her SATs scores.later on a science teacher saw how good and interested in underwater science lily is and so she askes lily if lily wants to go to seaview communitys, because the teacher has a feeling that lily acturally might get in cause of her interest. lilys life just got worse when she opened the door to see Dosinia(doe) on her and aunts doorstep.turns out doe got exiled from the kingdom.which is bad because exile is the worse punishment for mer people, and her dad only used it one time on a person in a lifetime. doe got exiled by lilys dad because she has taken human hatred way too far.so as a punishment and a lesson he has sent doe to land and exiled her of her powers, and she is to stay with lily on land until lilys dad feels that doe learned her lesson and is to be returned. shannen is also helping lily out on learning things that lily needs to know for the tests. doe tells lily that lilys dad said that that doe has to stay on land until she starts to like humans, and that lily is the one that gets to decide when doe gets to go back to the kingdom. later on doe starts to flirt with brody one the first day of school, and of course, brody falls for does charms..things go from bad to worse when lily catches doe and brody making out in lilys home one day.oh no, they just kissed, which means that doe has linked a magical bond between them and they have to do the seperation b4 brody turns mer-man and starts to have more feelings for doe. later on lily finds out that the reason doe kissed brody was because doe knew that brody would have to be taken to the kingdom by lily, which leaves doe with quince....which is the part where doe plans to start to flirt and win him over by the time lily gets back to land. lilyi takes brody to the kingdom underwater to find out that her dad wasnt going to be back until morning.so brody got shown around by the guards and lily went to go see her bff peri.then later on lily sees a guy at the palace that she recognizes...and its tellin-her childhood friend-and hes all grown up since she last saw him. turns out tellin has been living on land too, but in puerto rico.along time ago lily and tellins dads were bffs, but then one day they started fighting and tellin and his fatherjust left lilys kingdom and went to their own, never to return, and now tellins back since his father is ill. later on when lily and brody finds out that doe hates humans , and then everyone finds out that the reason doe got exiled was because she stole lilys dads trident...and tried to wipe out the east coast with it. later on lily thinks it over and decides that the only way for doe to not hate humans and to learn to love them is for her to stay bonded to brody.lily saw the tears in does eyes when brody walked out on doe, so that means brody can change the way doe is. and she knows that brody has feelings for doe too since brody told lily that he feels like doe is his future everytime hes near her. later on lily sees tellin in her house, and turns out he wanted to talk to her...he thinks that telling the world about mermaids and all may result into something goodly.when tellin says that lily-the princess of the kingdom, and telling-prince of another kingdom can work together to get the people of the kingdom to say yes so that they could tell the world, lily has to disagree.because 1. she will not be queen anymore in a week or so.so tellin proposes to lily and says that lily can bond to him and she will stay princess.but lily doesnt want to risk quinces relationship with her, so she declines.but tellin says he wont give up, and later on lily finds out tellin came all the way to lilys home form pueto rico without planning about where to stay at after the talk, so she tells him he can stay at her house for a few days. lily convinces brody to give doe another chance. qince gets alittle jealous when he hears that tellin is staying at lilys place. later on shannen takes lily to go "grocery shopping" and right next door is lilys favortie restraunt.and they go in there and everyone says surprise!its lilys early surprise party.every present is great and all, until tellin says out loud in the end "to lily, who will give up anything and everything to be with the ones she loves, even her title".thats when quince found out that when lilys 18th birthday comes up, she is giving up her tittle if shes not bonded. lily wishes on her birthday wish that one day quince would be able to go to the kingdom again with her. quince is mad that lily didnt tell him about the tittle thing and that she didnt tell him when she was going to give up her tittle on her 18th birthday to be with him. quince tells lily that hes not worth it for her to give up her royal tittle for him, and he says that she should bond with tellin to become a princess and eventually a queen, and forget about him. later on when lily went to the ocean to do the seperation on doe and brody, doe said no, because she loves him and wants to be bonded to him forever.and brody also loves her too, and knows the consequences of turning into a mer-man, but anything is worth it to him it he has doe in the end. doe tells lily that doe got exiled on purpose, because doe went to tellin when she heard about lily giving up her tittle, and tellin agreed with doe that without lily the kingdom would be a disaster.so doe got exiled on purpose to go on earth and bond with a boy which will lead lily to tellin, where tellin will try to make lily and him bond together.later on lilys dad comes to land and tells lily something that excites her, her dad says that her dad found a way to make quince to be able to go to the kingdom with lily whenever he wants to.the only bad thing was that quince was away and mad at lily.later on in the end quince shows up to the ball and quince agrees for her to kiss tellin to save tellins kingdom and all so she does.lucina(tellins gf) also agrees for tellin to be bonded to lily so that the kingdom will be in peace.so tellin and lily bond and everything is good good happy happy.doe has changed, lily and quince are together and happier than ever, tellin and lucina are happy together also, and the kingdoms are all going to be safe in the future.life for lily is great.
Had lots of cliffhangers and was VERY good! One of my favorites.
