It's unfortunate that there is no cover shown for this book because it is beautifully done (for a similiar style, look at the Beauty & The Beast cover on my list for an idea). The story is pretty much the standard Sleeping Beauty plot with minor tweaks but Mayer's artwork is mind-blowing. As a child, I hoarded this book every summer when I visited my grandparent's house in Sierra Vista, AZ from the local library. When the library upgraded to a new building in the late nineties, this title was nowhere to be found. I was literally heartbroken because it was out of print by then and I could not find it anywhere. I finally had Amazon do a search for it when I graduated from high school and it took them a year but they finally sent me my own copy. It is one of my most treasured possessions. I will never part with it but I may show it to you if you ask nicely! If you cannot buy/steal/barter your own copy, try your local library. This one really is a treat!

This is a humorous take on the darkest period of the author's lives.Krupakar and senani are well known wildlife photographers abducted by veerappan. This book was translated from their original kannada work.Everyone sees veerappan as a dreaded criminal but this book offers a humourous and almost a human portrait of the legendary bandit. The translation is so good that I burst out laughing many times while reading it.It is a first hand account of veerappan and the life he lead in the forest.

So, SO funny. Foofy British meanness. In the midst of the characters' relentless, shockingly horrible behavior, there's lots of descriptions of outfits, meals, and decor, which I always love.

Follow up for Bomb the Suburbs-another great read for social activists

I like that she is pretty balanced with expectations of slowly moving all-raw or helping the reader to find their own proper level of how much raw food to eat. For example, for most people she says to see if you can go raw until dinner. She also gives good ideas for how to find food you CAN eat at restaurants or at gatherings with family and friends, rather than just fasting like other raw foodists often suggest. Overall, I've gotten some great ideas and some great recipes.

Not as good as some of his other books.

I struggled through the first 100 pages and at that point I wouldn't have guessed I'd end up giving this novel a 5-star rating. But my patience was rewarded as this is one of the most memorable books I've ever read. This is my 4th Irving novel and I've liked everyone of them a lot so I think it's time I add him to my favorite writers list and read the rest of the collection. He really is a brilliant writer.

I really liked it save for the open ending...I think I really need to watch the movie for closure; the identity of the werewolf remains a mystery?!
I just started to read this book last night and I am almost in the middle. Right now I can tell you that this book is young British humor at it's best. We shall see what happens..... UPDATE: I finished the book today and it was funny all the way through. I will probably continue to read this series.

It all started when Chloe Saunders got her first period. (Have to say with how old she was I was jealous at how long she got to wait until she had hers) On her way to school Chloe sees her first ghost, however, when nobody else sees it she writes it off as her active imagination. However, when Chloe gets to school and has an epic freak out seeing a half dead man chasing after her that nobody else sees, she gets sent to her worst nightmare. Lyle House is a supposed group home for troubled teens. The teens though all have secrets of their own on why they're there. After finding herself in Lyle House Chloe meets Simon and Derek two bother thaat landed there after their father went missing. Liz, a girl who has problems..like objects flying around her, there's Tori, a girl who has it out for Chloe and will do anything to get what she wants, Simon. Finally there's Rae a girl who's mother went missing and becomes Chloe's best friend and roommate after Liz goes missing. Nothing is as it seems at Lyle House. While Chloe pretends to take her medications, tells the psychiatrists that she just imagined everything and that everything will get better with time, something dark lurks in the corner of Chloe's mind. After making friends with Simon and Derek they make a plan to escape and find Simon and Derek's father. Finding answers from the dead at Lyle House the pieces begin coming together and the urgency to leave becomes more so. I absolutely loved this book and was so happy the second book was out when I finished this one. Every page of the story was filled with amazing story telling, enticing plot, and awesome writing and characters. I love Chloe and all the other characters...well maybe not Tori but after hearing her story I did feel as if I connected with her a bit more. The Summoning is filled with so many twists and turns, as well as an incredible evil that I just couldn't have been more excited. Each page turn was always me thinking (What's going to happen next!?!?). I hope you all pick up a copy of this amazing book and hopefully the rest of the series.
