I learned a lot from this true story about Polygamy and the FCLDS (or whatever it was called). Mostly how ridiculous some people are. These poor people grew up believing that ridiculous things were going to send them to hell. The most horrendous thing to me is the way they treated the women. The "prophet" had them believing that the only true way to heaven was to have a husband and lots of children. AND making a 14 year old girl get married and have "marital relations" with her cousin - when they had always told the girls that boys were snakes.... ugh.... Thank GOD Warren Jeffs is serving life. This woman's story is heart wrenching for sure. The only thing wrong with this book is that it was long. Sometimes the pages drug on for me adn things were repeated.

I've enjoyed Anita Renfroe's humor and her "Mom sense" video on Youtube. Her wit and wisdom are terrific and her comedy is wholesome and motivational. This is a very good book for Mothers and Daughters, especially as they enter some of the more particularly difficult ages, or perhaps even more so afterward. There is a very heavy emphasis on Christianity in this book, however, which may turn off folks from other religions. Quotes I found interesting: "We cannot undo what has already been done, but if we ask God to forgive us and try to make things right, we can do better the next time." (p. 114) "You tell them that our lives can change with every breath we take." (p. 178)

What an absolutely fabulous book--poetic, intellectual, dramatic, and just SO GOOD. It's about a person who has an affair with a married woman, only the narrator is never given a name or a gender. It's really really intriguing, and I recommend it to every Smithie.

Ok, finished it. Would rate it 1.5 stars but I gave it two to be generous. This book was not good. The characters were so unbelievable for their age. One minute they would be too immature and act like teenagers and then the next they would be way too mature for a 21 year old. And the constant back and forth of I love you, I hate you. Ugh. And "the big misunderstanding" shouldn't have happened. This whole story was very unbelievable.

Have you ever read "School of Fear" by Gitty Daneshvari? If you haven't, well, maybe you'd like reading this one, it's a light writing with some interesting information about phobias. Anywayy.. for me personally the highlight of this book is when Mrs. Wellington said to Garrison, "You tell your bossy, old, grouchy father that getting over your fear is a process, one we must confront daily, and that if he has a problem with that, he should investigate why he is more afraid of your fear than you are," Mrs. Wellington said with the confidence and clarity of a bona fide certified teacher. Those lines are soo great!! And how true is that, ehh? Ahahaha.. Have you ever wondered how some people are trying soo hard trying to "fix" someone else? As if their lives depend on the changing of that person, while in fact no matter how drastically changed one's life still no effect to that person?
