Another gripping delight from my kids' favorite LDS author! (I had compete with two of my children for the chance to sit and read it, but it was worth it.) An enjoyable read.

I so wanted this to be amazing. it's was just aight.
EThis audible book was 100% enjoyable. Excellent reader, good characters and plot. It is a look in to a American Korean family struggling to assimilate the second generation into all of the American culture. Several different story lines that intersect and mingle. Highly recommended--more of a chick lit book but the cultural learnings broaden it.
I had high hopes for this book but ended up detesting it. Does Hemingway *ever* give his female characters any thought? They are so two-dimensional and predictable. It seems like they are just decoration in his novels; there for plot thickening without ever having to flesh them out. Ugh. There are no characters I respect in it; and actually, that's ok -- you don't always have to have a hero or heroine, but in order to identify with the book, you do have to have someone that people can relate to. I just never found any characteristic in the main character that I idenitified with. The writing has a pretentious air to it and you can almost feel Hemingway's condescension leaking through the page. The plot was predictable and not stimulating. The undertones were way too obvious, therefore, negating the "under" in undertones. I expected more. Maybe that was the problem.

This is a fun book of snappy little poems about food.

This version of the "Three Little Pigs" features tamales as the targets for Senor Lobo, the big bad wolf. What I liked about this story was the prose, Kimmel's writing. I read it aloud, and it just flowed. The repetitious rhyming verses that Senor Lobo says as he approaches each tamale's house, and the tamale's replies, bounce the story along. I must try this with my pre-schoolers, as some of them this year are Hispanic. I find it interesting that the smartest tamale was female and wore glasses. A bit of sexist bias? I loved the story, and can't wait to try it in story time.

I really like this book until the last couple of chapters...I hate that! It didn't end the greatest. I do love that it has a different yummy cupcake recipe at the end of each chapter.

Patricia Cornwell is among the better mystery writers, and this is among the better books of hers that I've read. It's a procedural murder mystery with lots of political intrigue thrown in, and it's a page turner. Only complaints: 1. It's the third book in a series, so there's a lot of time wasted explaining the back story. 2. A few too many twists and turns. There's one thrown into the last 50 pages that kind of defies belief. 3. (spoiler) If The X Files taught us nothing else, it's that the story is always more interesting if the government conspiracy turns out to exist.
