A curiosity from the seventies, two great talents colliding for something less than great but still intesting. Basically a bunch of action scenes strung together with a bit of Delaney philosophical sf, hampered by the fact that most like most painted comics there is not a lot of sequential flow, and that for soeme reason they wanted to not use speech bubbles. Still worth reading though as sort of a proto adult comic book.

I found this book fascinating but I do not pretend that it is for light reading. Each one of the characters mentioned could (and probably do) have entire books written about them. This book offers the readers digest version of their lives and conquests. I enjoyed the chance to learn about their earlier lives and then make my own opinion as to where I believe they fall in the "evil" spectrum.

There was the proper amount of raunch in this book... and it stuck with me. And that's all I remember about it. I did read it a loooooong time ago.

I wrote this book, so my logic may be flawed with regard to my rating. But I doubt it.

If I could go back in time and pick a manuscript to steal from an author and publish myself, I would pick this one.

My official favorite book once I finally shut the back cover closed. It is so hard to put into words how much I love this book. I am obsessed. I fell in love with Collins' language and her way of thinking. It was like she was talking directly to me. To add on to the amazing way she wrote, the overall plot was so creative and interesting. It really made you think! It was the United States int he future, and we were all organized into districts and controlled by the Capitol. There was an annual event called the Hunger Games which is when 1 boy and 1 girl from each district are randomly chosen to be sent to death, and fight for themselves to survive and become victor. Just this was interesting, but then add in amazing characters and a love triangle, and multiple conflicts? Perfect. It is the most page-turning, jaw-dropping, heart-stopping book I've ever read; and probably ever will. I truly gets to you and makes you yearn for the upcoming events in the next book! The Capitol's malevolent plans, the love triangle between Peeta, Katniss, and her "best friend" Gale, the Games, and the suspense are just a few of the amazing aspects of this book.
I loved this book more than anything I've read in a long time. It ranks up there with The Red Tent and Poisonwood Bible for me. I'm a fan of books with a sci fi twist going back to my love of A Wrinkle in Time when I was a kid.

a remarkably astute, hilarious, and at times jaw-dropping look into the minds of women and what they think about men. and sex. and other women. it's a quick read that will make you want to read the entire thing out loud to someone next to you (this happened to me. and i had to read it immediately afterwards).
Catching Fire absolutely passed the ever difficult living up to the first book exam. If possible, Catching Fire usurped The Hunger Games for tension, terror and action. Suzanne Collins delivered another amazing read, one that took what we learned about The Capitol and amped it to make them an even scarier force to be reckoned with. There is little to be said without giving a single thing away. So I will say this - Catching Fire is incredible. The tension increases with every page and the action leaps off the page and surrounds you ever so completely. Read it. Love it. Get the next in the series. End of.
