I red this book at a particularly appropriate time in my life. I was navigating through the complexities of class registration at uc berkeley and at the same time trying to change my major. The futility of K's struggle resonated with me deeply and gave me a much more amused outlook on my own efforts.

I have always loved the movie and decided it was finally time to read the book. It was a little sad knowing everything that was going to happen (the movie sticks very closely with the book) but I still found the characters charming and the book endearing. I will always love this story.

Michelle Reid is an excellent writer. She writes such vivid fiery passion between her hero and heroine. They always come to life and jump out at you. This story was a huge cop out though. The relationship between the leads gave me everything I was expecting, but came to an abrupt stall when I realized that I was just going to be reading another hero marries heroine because she was pregnant story-line. I was hoping for a tangible story with the lovers conflict being resolved in a substantial way. The heroine getting pregnant was way too predictable and easy. I would have loved to see their love for each other withstand the pressures and strictures that were placed on them and watch them defy convention without the cop out of a pregnancy. 2.5 stars

I found I enjoyed most of these stories at varying degrees. Each story was very short, no more than 40 pages, and most shorter than that. It was more like a sampling of authors. But it made me interested in some new ones. Stories I especially liked: How the Pooka Came to New York City by Delia Sherman The Duke of Riverside by Ellen Kushner Fairy Gifts by Patricia Briggs Underbridge by Peter S. Beagle The Bricks of Gelecek by Matthew Kressel (though I do not know if I would actually label this one urban fantasy) Guns for the Dead by Melissa Marr Noble Rot by Holly Black
