I love Shel Silverstein. This is one of the first books of poetry I ever read, and I still flip through it occasionally. The characters in it are memorable and the drawings are equally entertaining. If you haven't read it, then you should resolve that problem immediately.

Maybe it's because it's a translation, but I had trouble really getting into the book. The chance to see Inkworld should've thrilled me, but instead it just dragged on and on. Some of the chapters seemed repetitious and unnecessary.

It was okay. From cover: "Set in Oxford in the 1660s - a time and place of great intellectual, scientific, religious and political ferment - this remarkable novel centres around a young woman, Sarah Blundy, who stands accused of the murder of Robert Grove, a fellow of New College. Four witnesses describe the events surrounding his death: Marco da Cola, a Venetian Catholic intent on claiming credit for the invention of blood transfussion; Jack Prescott, the son of a supposed traitor to the Royalist cause, determined to vindicate his father; John Wallis, chief cryptographer to both Cromwell and Charles II, a mathematician, theologian and inveterate plotter; and Anthony Wood, the famous Oxford antiquary. Each one tells their version of what happened but only one reveals the extraordinary truth. Brilliantly written, utterly convincing, gripping from the first page to the last..."
This was a very enjoyable book. Very engaging story line.
I loved this book, particularly because I enjoy reading about prohibition type things. Plus Fitzgerald is a favorite of mine.

My father-in-law recommended this book. We have relatives on St. Simons. The story was mediocre at best.Interesting because I was familiar with the landmarks.

This is a book about family and how messed up people are (in a nutshell)- it's the story of a boy who was "raised" at his uncle's Long Island bar. True story- heartfelt and cheesy!

Wow, wow, wow. I read this book 2 years ago (and hundreds of books ago) and it's still one of my very favorites. I absolutely loved the fact that the entire novel spans, what, a day and a night? It's very impressive that this book encompasses a complete, cohesive story when it takes place in such a short amount of time. The characters were all really quirky and "cool," and I suppose some could view that as unrealistic--really, if it weren't for excellent writing, the whole novel would seem unrealistic--but I thought they seemed real enough, and that's a big part of me liking a book. The rapidly changing settings and situations just add to the book--as cheesy as it sounds, it feels like you're a part of the chaos. There is an abundance of profanity, sexual references, and painful awkwardness, which could easily turn off certain readers, but besides all that, this book is so spot-on with so many things. Maybe it's impossible for me look in retrospect on my teenage years, since I'm in the throes of adolescence right now, but when it comes to basically every emotion a teen has, this books hits the nail on the head for every single one. I think it would provide some good ol' nostalgia (and an awesome read) for the adults that read this book, and for teens I think it's just a really funny fast-paced book about everything that could happen.
Loved the use of words in this book. Pearl's ability to illustrate the conflict between love and tradition is amazing -- you can really relate to the struggles that both sides are faced with. It's an easy read that makes you appreciate the time and country we live in.
