Yet another perspective on India, nice complement to the Slumdog Millionaire movie, and an interesting framework (written to the Premier of China). Won the 2008 Booker Prize.

I love Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the sad lightness that Holly's life posesses. However, this novel shows us the dark and venal side of Capote, and I love it. He is a true writer.

Overall, I liked it, but I'm just not into the whole feminist genre.

This is a follow-up to Michael Byrnes's first book, "The Sacred Bones". In "The Sacred Bones", we left Charlotte Hennesey examining what was thought to be the bones of Jesus Christ. We find that Charlotte is dying from terminal cancer and DNA was extracted from the bones and injected into Charlotte. She goes into total remission and is "miraculously" cured. Rabbi Aaron Cohen, a descendent of the biblical Aaron, and his family have been the guardians of the Ark of the Covenant. A lttle "Raiders of the Lost Ark" music please. Rabbi Cohen wants to place the Ark on the Dome of the Rock to unleash its awesome power. Unfortunately Rabbi Cohn cannot touch the Ark because through the years his bloodline is not pure, and only one who is pure can touch the Ark. Charlotte, whose blood is now purified by the DNA of Jesus Christ, is kidnapped by the Rabbi. None of this however goes unnoticed by the Israelis and Muslims. Both sides are trying to figure out what is going on and how they can take advantage of it. The Catholic Church has also been a player since "The Sacred Bones" and continues in "The Sacred Blood". There is a priest who is a traitor to the Vatican, and also becomes a confidant of Charlotte. The showdown comes when Charlotte must open the Ark of the Covenant. The opening of the Ark may not be as dramatic as in "The Raiders of the Lost Ark", but does purport that it is something not to be fooled around with. This is a good read if not taken too seriously. There is some good biblical history in the book mixed in with a lot of suppositions.

A good story of a hardscrabble kid trying to make his way through the lawlessness of the American city.

Okay - the two stars here should be more like "it was good" (caused I thought it was more than just ok) but the three star rating should be "it was cute" - cause it was. This is a book written for middle schoolers (the main character is in 6th grade), and they might think the characters are cool. After all, the main character, Percy (short for Perseus) is the son of Posideon - the Greek God of the Sea. But for an adult, the writing needs some work. It reeks of Harry Potter and the parallels are ridiculously close but the writing isn't even in the same league as JK Rowling. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the character of Percy wasn't quite developed. I have a 6th grader and some of the things that this kid would say wasn't, in my opinion, what a 6th grader would say. It was more like what an adult would THINK a 6th grader would say. It felt really contrived. The story, however, moved along at a quick pace. It moved along at a pace that engaged the reader early on and kept you going. I thought this was especially helpful, given the target audience. All in all, it's a cute series for middle schoolers. I have all five books and will save them for my 6th grader, but I wouldn't be surprised if he never read them.

Cool ninja-fu and sex in the Lustbader way.
it's good. i liked how it broke down some of the basics on creating characters and coming up with dramatic situations. :)
