I really didn't like this book, this time due to the writing style rather than the storyline. Well written, but not my type.

Truly, I didn't think it was possible that a book would ever have too much scatological humor for me to enjoy. But I just couldn't get into my first TC Boyle read. Maybe if I'd been emotionally engaged in either loving or hating the characters getting enemas? But nothing compelled me to read past page 100. And my friends, there are too many books and too little time to spend reading something that doesn't move you in one way or another.

This was a very profoundly sad book. Very interesting, but profoundly sad. What can you expect from a wartime book, I suppose. Definitely liked it though!!!

An amazing book by an amazing woman, but hits book covered some of the same ground as ground as The Dressmaker of Khair Khana: Five Sisters, One Remarkable Family, and the Woman Who Risked Everything to Keep Them Safe especially how tough it was for woman with the Taliban in charge. I did like how at the end she tells of some of the impact the US has had in 2001 and how things have changed, at least in Kabul.

Good read! A good look at siblings, drug abuse and dysfunctional families.
It is more like a cheap romantic movie... Read it if you are willing to, hmmmm, may be during a train journey or something... 4 hours max...

I wish this had been written when I was a child, although I find it just as inspiring and beautiful and tragic and gorgeous now as I would have then.
A lot of Vonnegut's complaints here--how our society is "addicted" to oil, how politics is corrupting--feel stale and well-worn. But then again, they're still every bit as true as they were 40 years ago when Vonnegut started writing about them, so maybe there's something sad about how little this recent restatement moved me.
