I read this book ages ago, and I remember being very frustrated with Dr. Frankenstein's helplessness. He created his own problems and could have created solutions, but instead he just moaned about how cursed he was. But I was just a cocky college freshman when I read it the first time, and I'm more humble now, so maybe some day I'll give it another chance.

I've really been into the ghost books here lately for some reason. This one was...interesting. It didn't blow me away but I am definitely interested and hearing what else the author can come up with. I think the main problem I had was with the MC. I just never connected to the main character and that's something that turns me away from a book fairly quickly. The concept was great and the prose was beautiful, but I just felt so "out" of the story almost the entire time I was reading. But I ended up liking the flow of the story overall. Oh, also - the title reminds me' so much of Speaker for the Dead. I really miss Ender. Looking forward to more from this author! Thanks to Goodreads and the publisher for this Firstreads book!

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's style of write is outstanding, in my opinion. Holmes is a brilliant character and fall among my favorite charactors evers. Coolly logical and just all around a brilliantly deductive detective(wow. Say that one three times fast!), Holmes is a deeply intriguing character. The Hound of the Baskervilles is so far my favorite Holmes story, I'm looking foreward to reading them all! Well, the ones actually written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, anyways. The side stories, more recently written by other authors, other than Conan Doyle, seem...dissapointing to say the least. (Lets just say i don't think i will enjoy reading about Sherlock Holmes being captured by vampires, only to be rescued by Watson with the help of Holmes's cousin, who just happens to be none other than the notorious vampire Count Dracula, thats for sure.)

I was really excited to get into Ree's world after reading the summary of Mortal Obligation. And my excitement was generously rewarded as I was swept up in this great story. What I liked: 1) The Guardians. How they are...created, or tapped as Guardians is pretty cool. 2) Roland. Okay, I'm majorly crushing on this guy. He seems to be super sweet, but also kinda dangerous at the same time. 3) And then of course there's Paden. Strong, sorta silent type whose nursing an unrequited crush? Let's say it together now, LOVE TRIANGLE! There were some incredibly sweet scenes with Paden that just made me want to sigh. 4) The battle scene. This was one of the best written battle scenes I've read in a while. Seriously, I was holding my breath at one point. 5) I didn't expect the killer twist at the end. Going back and thinking about it, I was like, oh, man. I should have seen that coming! But I didn't. :) What I didn't like: 1) It's a little slow on the uptick. It took me a bit to get into the story. Of course once I did get into it, I didn't emerge until I was finished. Overall thoughts: This is a great start to The Dark Betrayal Trilogy. It opens up a new world full of interesting characters, a new twist on paranormal concepts, and a different backdrop. I can't wait to see where the story goes next for Ree and her friends.

I can scarcely tolerate Dickens's angelic heroines, good and moral to the point of fault, which is why I absolutely adore Great Expectations. Estella and Miss Havisham are positively sadistic in their torment of the main character, Pip and it still contains all the bizarre imagery and weird characters that the author is so famous for. Great Expectations is sure to live up.

The book was not a bad read. I think it would have been easier for me to understand if I had read the previous books. As it was, I got a lil confused by the whole blood sharing thing, and why it was such a big deal.
