The show was great in person. A very eclectic collection of art. Some great, some not so great.
A detective mystery set in Minneapolis- a quick read that keeps you turning the pages. I'd like to read more of Tess Gerritsen, but have too many other books ahead of hers.
4.5* Guy Gavriel Kay writes amazing fantasy! The worlds he creates, with his amazing prose, are so rich and still familiar, because he bases a lot of his world building on actual history. Here the basis was Italy and it's conflicts between the city-states. The themes he explores are thought provoking and wonderfully woven into the story. The characters are mostly interesting, even though I thought some parts of their back story were rather boring. But like George RR Martin, Daniel Abraham, Brandon Sanderson to some extend and a few others, GGK manages it to let his characters appear more believable. Nobody is just pure evil or pure good, it matters on the perspective. The villain in the beginning may seem like a villain, until you get to see his point of view or the people around him and you notice your "heroes" got their dark sides as well. I absolutely love this gray character setup, it makes it much more complex and closer to reality. Not as good as The Lions of al-Rassan but still amazing and a must read! GGK is now definitely one of my favorite authors, ordered two more books of him already!

Very good companion to Ender's series; it helps to explore the role of others in your world and yours in theirs.

I listened to this on audio in my car for the good part of a month. I have to admit that, by the second or third disc, I was irritated by Portia's non-stop self-bashing. It was painful to listen to, especially knowing what a beautiful woman she is, but I suppose that was the whole point. Anorexia is not really about how thin you are or how you look...it comes down to how you feel about yourself. Portia does such a good job of describing what it's like to live life as an anorexic, it almost made me want to cut my caloric intake in half and start exercising vigorously. Seriously, as someone said in another review, it could be an essential how-to book for the anorexic-to-be, so beware of suggesting it to impressionable young (and old) people. Despite being frustrated with her tale of unrelenting low-self-esteem, I have to admit that I listened to the last disc while weeping in my car. Portia has a lot of insight after experiencing what she did and I found it wise and poignant. Ellen's no dummy.
You know that feeling you get when you go for a walk at night, alone? The world around you is eerily quiet, and the familiar shapes of your neighbour’s houses look strangely alien in the shadows. All around is a stillness that should be peaceful, but the undercurrent of danger that slides down your spine makes you shiver. That’s how this book made me feel. This book is for anyone that is interested in the fundamentals of myth and religion historically and spiritually. It is also for anyone that loves The Lord of the Ring books and responds to their story at a deep level that they may not fully understand themselves. Tolkien was an amazing writer and scholar. This book by Ralph Wood brings to light why Tolkien's Mythologies feel so true.
Pirsig is a terrible Buddhist but a fascinating writer. This book is pretentious as hell, but still worth the read. Warning: you will want to buy a motorcyle and hit the road after reading.
It was interesting. I didn't realize that The Glass Castle is about the same family. Both are stories about hard lives. I enjoyed The Glass Castle more, but this was definitely worth reading.
