excellent, edgier than the film.

A thousand stars. That's what I'd give this beautiful, haunting story about life itself, if I were allowed. Everyone should be required to read Daytripper. It's that good. It's not just that it's good, though. It's meaningful. Every last ounce of quiet emotion in this gorgeous story is real, honest, and universal. Moon and Bá have captured something truly unique: a story almost exclusively about death that never once feels depressing. It makes you want to just get up and do everything you've always wanted. READ THIS. Hell, read it twice. You won't regret it.

I liked this one even better than Eragon. In parts it dragged a little but then just as I was getting bored with what Eragon was doing there would be a chapter about Roran and I would keep reading. I liked how the two caracters met up at the end and how the author gave a preview to Eldest. I can't wait to read it!

Although I have nothing new to offer by ways of "reviewing" Lear -- because, really, how can any offer a thorough and worthwhile critique of Shakespeare? One that can fit in this box? -- I will join with the fray and say how much I was awed by it. As I am in the middle of a Shakespeare course, one that rolls through the tragedies before you can beg for mercy from the gods, I was worried that I would overlook Lear. But, in comparison to his other tragedies, Lear just offers you such a different perspective. It truly introduces women onto the stage (the women we've seen before are really minor, with no real desires or voice); Lear is not a young, strapping protag, at the height of his strength, but an aging King. There's so much more to say -- here we see some of the most evil and horrifying villains in Shakespeare and they are not mystical creatures or madmen, they are the sons and daughters of dependent parents; here we see the heartbreaking power of love, as Lear dies believing Cordelia stirs; and here we see the power of words, as Shakespeare gives us our worst nightmare and still makes it a joy to consume.

Great book written by a Christian mother who's daughter converted to Islam. Talks about how she overcame certain stereotypes with the religion and how her relationship has grown with her daughter and her daughter's family. Great read!!!!

Could you forgive someone who put you in prison for 11 years for a crime you did not commit? This book shows how the justice system is not perfect. It also demonstrates how forgiveness enables one to move forward in life. I thought this book was powerful.
I read this when I was 12, loved it, and tried to review it for my 8th grade class newspaper, but I was at a Catholic school and they didn't like the "daemons" as people's souls - never mind that I explained that it's "daemons, not demons!". Ironically, the book alludes to the shortcomings of the Catholic Church, and the latter two books of the trilogy even more so. Maybe my teacher sensed the controversy outright. So yeah, I substituted a review of the very safe "Ten Kids, No Pets" by Ann Martin - and the whole school thus missed out on one of the best books around.
For an impulse purchase in Dallas when none of my top picks were available, I have to say that "Breathers" did not disappoint. The book is downright hilarious. S.G. Browne does a great job of giving the zombie a "softer-side" that has nothing to do with being able to show each other their brains or finger open wounds. Macabre to the core, it was surprising how human Browne made the zombies feel. In fact, as the book came to a close, I found myself rooting for Andy and his band of undead friends as they started feeding on the living. Ultimately, Andy IS a zombie, so it's easier to accept his flesh-eating tendencies, and the treatment of the zombies by the rest of humanity, "Breathers" seems downright atrocious, (but still hauntingly believable). All in all, the concept of zombie romance was top-notch, but Browne tried to tackle something a bit too big for Andy's britches. The romance peaks quickly, and if you were hoping for some hilarious developments between zombie girl and zombie boy, this isn't really the book for you. It has some gems, but the back cover and certainly the front cover's illustration are more eye-candy than substance - the plot is more of a social commentary from a zombie's perspective: poignant, astute, and incredibly creative. Seriously...Andy, zombie anti-hero, even writes Haikus.
I just re-read this book as my daughter was reading it for school. I think this was one of the first Holocaust books I read and it still is as sobering, and shocking as it was. A good read for young adults to be brought out of their mostly comfy worlds to harsh realities. We didn't think it would happen again, but look at the world today.

Loved it. Not quite as light and fluffy as the other Andrew's books I've read.
