Owen Meany still stands as my favorite John Irving book, but this one is #2.

This read more like an autobiography and there weren't really any tips in it to actually save money. I'd also love to know where the author found parents willing to pay $50/hour for a tutor!
Sebastian and his best friend Jeremy take a road trip to meet Jeremy's father for the first time. After only a few days, Sebastian begins to suspect that Jeremy's father may be his own as well.

A great ending. my favorite quote: "You'd be surprised, it's not all about wandwork, either."
I recommend this book to everyone I meet. This novel will anger, excite, and provoke your thoughts days after you've returned it to your shelf.

Everyone who has written a negative review of this seems to attract trolls so I'll keep my full opinion to myself and say merely that it was not my cup of tea. Probably would have given it two stars except for the fact that it is the first book...after 2.5yrs of trying... I have ever given up without finishing.

I heard her speak yesterday at Loyola in Chicago. Very good speaker and very inspiring person. She was very direct. I plan to get her book soon!
This book was sort of the wandering of a great writer's mind...part autobiographical, part fiction, playfully Vonnegut. Honestly, it was pretty average except for one page of absolute genius which for me made the whole endeavor exceedingly worthwhile. I do not even think that you have to read the entire book to appreciate this page so ask me if you just want 100 words of enlightened sacrilege...if you are one who will be satisfied with Vonnegut musings with classic flashes of wit. Enjoy!

This is a fascinating retelling of an old Grimm brothers story. Princess Anidori is on her way to a neighboring country to marry a prince she's never met, when her faithful lady-in-waiting Selia, along with her minions from the Royal Guard, betrays her and takes her place. The story goes through phases...first she is a princess, then she's a peasant , and she eventually gets a job looking after the King's geese. She's constantly struggling to keep her identity a secret while searching for any way to reveal the truth. The full-cast audio recording is very good.

This is the story of two sisters, Savannah and Jane told from Chrissy, the fairy god mother's point of view. Only Chrissy is a "fair" god mother because she's not a very good student. Savannah becomes her extra credit project with some disasterous results for Savannah. Chrissy is a terrible listener and will only listen to half of what Savannah says. When Savannah mentions that she wants to go to prom with a prince and wishes life were like a fairy tale, she finds herself back in the middle ages. This was such a great read with lots of twists, character growth, and some true teen love.
