I was never hugely into fantasy, but this book is amazing. An outcast, awkward princess/dragon slayer -- how can you not love that? Beautifully written, and something every kid (and every child at heart) should read.

Reading some other comments I see I'm not the only one that's having problems with this series. I wanted to really like it but I find that Lora leighs books are now all interchangeable. The characters the dialogue the silly terms of endearments the sex scenes. Nothing new or interesting. Esp the "I really want you but I can't be with you". The women are often frustrating also bc their passion is stronger then their dignity or common sense. I took a break from the last book to this one hoping that it would help but it didn't. I'm truly hoping for something different with live wire but not holding my breath.

Although it's important to read about planning a conference, most people reading this book will have attended one themselves. This book is extremely text heavy with a sprinkling of diagrams. I would have rather seen the opposite. I was looking for more charts to help me organize the conferences I'm involved with. One of the book's highlights is the table that illustrates 25 conference learning activities. I am planning on using some of these ideas with planned Twitter conversations at one of the conferences.

Another chapter in The House of Night series - and each book really does feel like a chapter since they barely cover more than a day or two in and of themselves. A quick and easy read, again, frustrating in that there never really seem to be any resolutions to the overall plot/storyline. My best suggestion would be to wait till the whole series is written and then read everything (it'll only take a day or two) and hopefully all the storylines will be much more fluidly covered that way.

Although I know in retrospect that Lewis Carroll was kind of creepy and these books were a tribute to his friend's small daughter with whom he had an unhealthy fascination, the worlds created in these books are more vivid in my mind than any Harry Potter...and the thought of the queen of hearts is still somewhat terrifying to me.
