Seamus Heaney's revised telling of the Anglo-Saxon epic poem. Beowulf vs. Grendel. Hero: 1 Monster: 0. It's best read with some Motorhead or Wagner playing in the background. If you have a big beer stein for the mead hall, that might help too, and perhaps a helmet with a horn or two..Skol! "Waes se grimma gaest Grendel haeten, maera mearc stapa, se pe moras heold, fen ond faesten..." (8).

Delightful YA book--"For generations, the Beaumont family has harbored a magical secret. They each possess a “savvy”—a special supernatural power that strikes when they turn thirteen. Grandpa Bomba moves mountains, her older brothers create hurricanes and spark electricity . . . and now it’s the eve of Mibs’s big day." Mib is a great character on the brink of discovering her savvy. I loved this book-very clever, unique, funny, appropriate and interesting for young readers as well as their parents. I read this with Matt and we both enjoyed it. Great first offering by Ingrid Law.

I initially didn't want to read this book, as it seemed very dark. However, it is a wonderful story of redemption, although very tragic. You must read this book.

Nigel is about to find out how far this succubus is able to go. Carnal Machines Anthology has a theme...mechanical devices, some of them we might have heard of and some totally new. All the stories are set in the Victorian period, where women wore corsets, didn’t work and just took care of their men, or so it seems…. I have to say those authors done an amazing job with these very short stories, some of them had me right from the first paragraph, and there were only three stories that I really have mixed feelings about. Maybe it’s because of the weird mechanical devices they use. This anthology is well-written and very entertainment. So if you are looking for some small hot sexual stories and don’t mind to read about the use of devices, then this is definitely the book for you.
Very difficult book to stay engaged. Birkin keeps on going off on his philosophical tangents about how women suck. He was such a misanthrope that it was offputting. Some of his philosophies about women and love are worth noting though.

I've always been a sucker for suspense-thrillers with a flawed, whiskey swilling lawyer as the protagonist. Andy Cole is a successful small town lawyer, at least monetarily. He's well aware of the local corruption, but it's always been in his best interest to go along to get along. Until Danny Fairgreen of the notorious Fairgreen family is arrested for the brutal murder of a barmaid. Hired to represent Danny, Cole finds himself battling the establishment that he'd been a willing part of for so long. Somebody wants this murder to go away and will stop at nothing to make sure that happens. Rhoades keeps the suspense going, along with plenty of local color and offhand comments. The identical twin bodyguards Liberty & Justice Fairgreen are a hoot. A most satisfying read.

This is quite possibly my absolute most favorite book. I don't understand why students aren't asked to read David Copperfield in High School instead of some of Dicken's other designated "classics". It is my favorite of his works.
great
