I thought the writing was decent but the moral was so heavy-handed that it turned me off. I guess it was more of a fable than an actual novel. I'm a sucker for "The Little Prince" though, so I don't know what's wrong with me.

There isn't enough "light" postmodernism; this book really hits the spot.
This book changed my life. I have probably read it 100 times.

I don't know why I'm always so surprised when the greats of the faith turn out to be human, but I am. This is a good introductory biography, although it seems to be a stepping stone to more in-depth books about Lewis' life. I think I may work on his autobiography, "Surprised by Joy" next.

I hate doing reviews, I really suck at it! Lots of imagery and ideas stuffed into one book. Yes, the premise of the book isn't unique but why does it have to be to work and be enjoyable? I loved how descriptive the book was, I have never been to New York or the surrounding area but quite often I could almost see it while reading. Now there were lots of ... issues that are used in the story, gay-bashing and alcoholism to name two, I really thought that was an effective tool that added realism. Real life isn't neatly segregated into if you have this problem you can't have those or etc. There is usually a mishmash of issues in anyone's life, big and/or small. Overall this was a bit heavier read than I have done in a while but I really enjoyed it.
Beautifully written. A short story I will not soon forget.

Seems to be the final book of a really interesting series - great wrap up but is room for more books in the future

On rereading this, I'm moving it up to four stars; having explored the 1980s Jeter-Blaylock-Powers roots of steampunk, this is by far the most satisfying of the narratives. I have some trouble warming to the narrator, Brendan Doyle (even though he's a professor of 19th century literature), but the plotting is satisfying, and the secondary character Jacky is winning. And there's Byron, and Coleridge, and the lovely paradox of William Ashbless . . .

Of course I love it, the third story ("Heir Apparent") is mine -- full of little druidic details and an obvious love of medieval romance literature...with genderswapping masquerades and politics thrown in. The other stories run the gamut of time periods and are all marvelously sexy.
