At first I found the style of this biography to be really slow. The author uses literary works read, or referred to, or written by C.S. Lewis to paint an image of his life. Perhaps the first chapters are more difficult because they are things that influenced him and not as directly evident as later quotes from works he wrote. On the whole, a deep look at a fascinating, wonderful man. An added benefit to the quotations from his books that I now have many other books by Lewis that I want to read. I've always loved the Narnia books but will be seeking out some of the others mentioned.

I like this book bc it has to do alot w/ me. I dont like is that it did not end good
It's very sad. If you like happy endings please don't read this. If you like stories that are true and real, please do read this. You have to like Hemingway to like his novels, and sometimes it is easier to just read his short stories, which can be more interesting and more fast-paced. "Today Is Friday" is surprising and very illuminating for those of religious pursuits (that's kind of a spoiler, sorry).
Middled-aged, hand wringing New York Jew falls for almost inappropriately young Asian girl? Stop me if you've heard this before. Set in some not too distant, post literate dystopia where people are glued to their mobile devices texting ackronymanically with ROFLAARP and TIMATOV while obsessing over their credit scores, rating each others fuckability in real-time and shopping at places called AssLuxury... It's just all too very. Maybe this sort of winking irony is just lost on me. I do have to say that as an otherwise illiterate second generation, Westernized (corrupted) Korean I got a cheap thrill managing to translate the mangled Kor-Engrish sprinkled throughout. Mu-she-suh indeed.

EmoHarry kind of bothers me in this edition of the series as he muses over how no one understands him, your typical brooding teenage hero type of stuff. However, the fifth book in this incredible series is no less engaging than any other, but the whining can make it a little more difficult to get through. As always, JK keeps a good thing going with this one as the story deepens and the danger amps up. Who's excited for the movie this summer?
I love all of Julie's historical books.

In my mind, this is "realism" for a postwar century.
Easily the most detailed and fascinating book yet written about Bowie's early life and career. The timeline is 1947 to 1974, covering Bowie's life in England, up to and including Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs. It includes all the tours David did up until 1974, including the US tours and visits, often in great detail. The photos and memorabilia are amazing, many I had never seen before and the layout and indexes are excellent too. If you thought you knew everything about the man then think again. As a fan of Bowie's for nearly 40 years it was a real pleasure to discover things I never knew anything about, plus find answers to some real nagging questions (The Man Who Sold The World history is particularly interesting). I originally ordered this from the UK as it was published there late last year. I believe there is a limited edition version too, but I haven't seen this yet so can't comment on the difference.
