Yay Kevin Smith. Many things in the book, that never made it to the screen! Fun, fun to act out!

This book was completely mediocre. I was unable to invest in any of the characters - I just really didn't care what happened to any of them. I thought the literary device of interspersing (what essentially amount to short stories) in between the main chapters of the book was odd and more than a little self-indulgent on the writer's part- I didn't think they added anything to the quality or depth of the novel. Didn't really care for this one - would not recommend unless you have no other options.

COvers everything you want to know about what music is, how it is made, and how the human body percieves it. This book was a large part of my source material for my college papers on composition.

a wonderful group of short stories -- can she ever put the words together to create people i'd love to know
SPOILER: In one of the final scenes, after the Mayor is cast from Casterbridge and he is trying to leave, but cannot... Hardy paints a picture of him walking around the outskirts of town in circles, although he does not truly realise it. Hardy was one of the best screenplay writers of his day -- his settings were always the best mise en scene.

The title for this book is actually perfect, and does sum it up quite succinctly; it is indeed, a super sad love story, but with a winking, satirical dark edge - "super sad" being precisely the kind of eye-rolling vernacular a youth in America's not-too-distant future would employ. Shteyngart's future NYC has "credit poles" that constantly update you of your credit rating (something of vast importance in an America taken over by Fox News-esque neocons), the girls wear absolutely see-through jeans called Onionskins, and talking or 'verballing' is considered a substandard form of communication. Why talk when you can communicate to each other via a device worn around the neck called an 'apparat'? (Ah, Steve Jobs' idea of the future?) This dystopian novel doesn't go too far out there in terms of creating a sci-fi esque America. It's just America, if Glenn Beck has his way. Shteyngart uses this background to tell the story of a mismatched love affair between Lenny, the son of Russian immigrants, teetering on the cusp of 39, unattractive, schlubby, and actually literate - and Eunice, a beautiful 20 year old Korean-American desperately trying to find an identity outside of her broken family structure. Shteyngart truly excels at telling tales of immigrants washed ashore in America, a country always depicted as once brilliant, and always vibrant.

Again, this is written by a local author. A fun, almost silly story with witty dialog. The older children, for whom the book is written, will benefit from the historical setting and the clever language.

Wrote a paper on this in graduate school. I was really glad I read the book. He write about his experience in a concentration camp and the resultant philosphy.

Book is filled with so much rich detail on the characters and places that aren't in the movie. Recommended read for anyone that has seen the movie...which I would imagine is everyone.
