I liked this book WAY more than the first book in the series. I listenened to this one on tape, and I found myself wanting to stay in the car to listen more!

I didn't like Katherine at all. And ellipses were used way too much and weirdly. But I did like Michael, though the whole Ralph thing kind of unnerved me.

I try to keep up with the Newberry Award books (since I teach. . . or did. . . I still do. . . just not in a public setting. . . whatever). This one is from 2006 (I haven't read the Graveyard book - or whatever it is called - yet, and I'm a few years behind). In any case, as far as Newberry Awards go this one isn't spectacular. It is a coming of age story about 2 girls (mostly 1) and 3 boys (mostly 2). It is full of different stories that are interconnected at some points, and lacks a plot (which is not my favorite thing). It does have some good lines and some thought provoking moments, but it really wasn't my favorite. I'm not exactly sure why it won the Newberry. . . It was interesting, but I wasn't dying to finish it. It has some unique ideas.

I know some people found this to be a let-down from the rest of the series but I think it might be the best of the three. Book #1 was more of a nail-bitter (for me) and I think more of a shock, given that it was the introduction to this world, but I feel like the first two books (so similar in story arc!) were all about preparing us to see the parallels between the "games" and the war. It's not an easy read because as the story progresses our narrator (and her whole world) keeps getting more and more damaged. I think it offers as happy an ending as can be expected given what everyone's been through. I am SURE that Collins chose the deaths she did for maximum pain to the reader! So cruel. A satisfying ending though, with a few nice twists.

This book gave me a better grasp of Gandhi's life - and particularly his political contributions. It is written from an American's perspective. Shirer was a reporter from the Chicago Tribune assigned to travel with and cover's Gandhi's activities. It seems that Gandhi took a liking to Shirer thus he was given a unique window into Gandhi's daily life and thoughts. The author is effusive in his praise for Gandhi - though he is also honest about some of Gandhi's idiosyncracies and contradictions.

I read V. for a college class. It was my first introduction to Pynchon. It made me want to read more of his works. I own Gravity's Rainbow, but like many I haven't read it yet. I understand that The Crying of Lot 49 is easier, but V. is also a good first start.
Interesting premise, although I do feel like the clone topic is not as dramatic now as when it was first introduced to the public... I found the narrator's voice annoying and repetative. Still, I was enteratined and somewhat thought provoking in terms of what is our purpose in life, what makes us human, what is a successful and well-lived life.

This frenchy was a wise man, though a bit cynical for my taste. I wish people still wrote books like this. I'd like to see what Adam Corolla's Maxims would look like.

This is so good that it reminds me of Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles series. Science fiction with a clever underdog protagonist that you really look forward to seeing win in the end.
