Very disappointing. In Stephen King's own words 'it was, frankly, rather difficult to read' with 'a high degree of pretension'. He then encourages us to persevere and the story will really find its voice in The Drawing of the Three. Will it really Stephen? I'm not sure whether to risk it or not. I feel like I have been cheated out of a small part of my life, a part that I will never be able to get back. But at least it was short.

Loved this continuation even though it was 200 years later.

** spoiler alert ** it was okay. i most just skimmed throught. i read the essay about Edward being a socipath and laugh my head and read the one on shape-shifter(werewolfs). I found myself totally diss the words in that one, enfueling my rages that S. Meyer made Jacob imprinted on the brat of Bella and Edward.

As much my eating habits defy this statement, I'm sort of nuts about nutrition. I love reading about food, and this book seems to do a pretty decent job of explaining all the stuff that ends up in grocery stores and Nestle give good, non-patronizing advice about what sorts of foods to avoid. She explains all the complicated political and bio-chem stuff in a way that my soft, liberal arts-preferring brain can comprehend. So now when I eat an entire bag of barbecue potato chips because I'm hungover, and that's what I like to eat when I'm hungover, I can do so with the added guilt of knowing exactly how empty all of those calories are.

This is a beautiful mix between historical romance and the fantasy of myth. It is a grand story that's been told impeccably well. I'm glad I picked this up when I randomly found it. It is a most enjoyable addition to my collection.

I don't understand why so many people feel that the characters in a book have to be "likable" in order for a book to be good. No, the characters are not likable in this book, nor are they likable in the author's second book Dark Places. They are dark, and damaged, unlikeable, and compelling. It seems that most people who disliked this book, disliked it because of the personalities of the characters, or because the book was "too dark". To me this just seems silly. Perhaps you don't like books that aren't uplifting, without happy endings, but that doesn't make the book itself bad or poorly written. I thought the characters were well developed, enjoyed the writer's style, and enjoyed the book immensely. But then I'm not afraid of the dark :)
Really getting so much out of this small book packed with good stuff

mildly entertaining, but i can say little more than that about this book. disorganized fairly unconnected short stories about his life. even the title does not provide cohesion but merely reflects the last story that sedaris probably finds the most entertaining (it wasn't). quick read, glad it's over. i most likely will not be reading more by him even though he has a strong and loyal fanbase, i don't see the value of his work.
