Read the review here as I was tagging this book, and was surprised to find out this was John Green's first book! Green specializes in strong friendships, interesting female (if unattainable) characters, while including much of the doubts everyone goes through when enduring adolesence (sp!). I love that the main character, "Pudge" as he is nicknamed, chooses to attend a boarding school for his last 2 years in high school, while he is in search of "the great Perhaps". It's a wonderful phrase I wish I'd come up with. Aren't many of us in search of the same thing, no matter our age? As already mentioned, strong friendships play amazing roles in John Green's books (I've read 2 so far--Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska), and to me, that is the best part. Elaborate pranks are big in his books too, and I wouldn't be surprised if John Green becomes somewhat inspirational in that regard for many high school and college students.

This book was better than I thought it would be (roommate thought so, too). There are some great characters and the way they all intertwine is even better. I really cared about them (or hated them) and didn't think I would.

Was funny with Connor's saracastic remarks and made you think about silence and how much it can say. You can't help but feel sorry how Branwell was tricked and then blamed. Was nothing like the first book I read by E.L. Koingsburg but was good nontheless

I have never laughed so hard and so long as I did while reading this book. Tome Sharpe is erudite and has a very wicked sense of humor. I have not read a book by him I did not enjoy.

this book explains the history of Nancy Drew. For anyone who grew up reading Nancy Drew books, its a great read of how she was born and the changes to Nancy over time.

Beautiful prose, well enjoyable.
Lisa Harper has lived separately from her mother Annie for years. Not because they wanted to, they had no choice. Annie signed custody of Lisa over to someone else to protect her from Dutch Hauk, Annie's controlling abusive second husband. Lisa has worked hard to become a doctor because the plan has been that as soon as Lisa is able to support Annie she will leave Dutch. Just as that plan is about to come to fruition Dutch sets something in motion that just might keep them apart forever. Mark Taylor, a former special operations spy with the group "Shadow Watchers", is now the chief of security at the Crossroads Crisis Center. He has done everything in his power to keep Lisa and her mother Annie safe, and somewhere along the way he started falling in love with Lisa. Because of his past he has always dreamed of being loved and wanted, not just needed. When he and his friends from the Shadow Watchers realize that Nina an organization they were working to bring down is involved in Dutch's plans, they plan on doing everything in their power to keep Lisa safe, while bringing down Nina. Can it be done? This book started out a bit slow for me, but one it got going it was a real thrill ride that had me on the edge of my seat on several occasions. The main characters in this story carry burdens from their past, but that doesn't stop them from having hope and faith in God. Lisa was an amazingly strong character, determined to take care of her mother. Mark carried blame for the death of his mother and his friend in Iraq, things that were out of his control, but he still felt responsible. The love story that unfolds between the two is touching and they fit so well together. The banter that went on between Mark's friends from the Shadow Watchers was often very funny, but also gave us a true look at the close bond between them. While this story is the second story in the Crossroads Crisis Center series it can easily be read as a stand alone work. If your a fan of christian suspense that draws you in with a great plot and characters that will keep you riveted to the story then you definitely should pick up this book! rating 5/5 Reviewed for Readersfavorite.com

Very vivid; one really gets a deatiled and lively picture of her life, emotions, relationships, socio-economic situation, what she knows of the politics of the day, etc. very ethnographical.

This is a tale of Haiti under Papa Doc, the night raids, torture, Tauntaun Macaute [spelt wrong probably] and all that. It is a chilling story of life under dictatorship, as the protagonist tries to run his empty hotel and maintain an improbable affair, An American Presidential Candidate makes a goodwill visit [somehow, I still see the image of Al Gore here, but that's probably unfair to Gore] and another interesting, unfathomable character makes an entry in Haitian life.
