this book is about the famous 300 !!! it is very good and whole lot more detailed than the movie or graphic novel, spends a lot of time on the training that spartans go through, and was very informative.

God, I remember reading this when I was 13 or 14 and thinking this was the coolest book ever. It made me want to be anorexic and coke-addled, or even both. So. Desperate. I should probably read it again for old time's sake. If you're 13 and looking for some empty excitement, this is probably the book.

Not exactly a typical read for me and the book cover's as ugly as the title. Brad Gilbert's shaded mug and the yellow type face can make you feel a bit queasy after lunch. But should you be a competitive type who'd like to do better at tennis (on an amateur level) this is the book for you. And I love the insights and gossip into how he beat some of the greats and got McEnroe into a rage (not difficult I guess).

This book started out with a very discriptive opening of what everything was and it really didn't start getting outrageously good until about half-way and at that point I couldn't put it down.

Some great characters, but I was looking for a light, uplifting read and this was not it. Much like Trigiani's Big Stone Gap series, it has some humor but also more than a dollop of suffering. The characters, however, are all real people and you find yourself caring about them even in such a short book.

I really couldn't get into this book - I didn't even finish it. It's poorly written. The story of Three Cups of Tea was really ispiring, but the continuation of it was a bit overboard.
