Great book!

Upon this re-read, I understand why I kept this one and not the previous two. I like this one a lot better; the twists and turns of the plot are just more complex, and it packs a lot more thought into it than the other two. It's much more adult than the other two.

Riordan continues to make clever kids stories based on mythology, this time deviating from Greek mythology to explore Egyptian mythos. I liked the choice of two protagonists, a brother and sister, but while good, it wasn't as good as the Percy Jackson series.

I read this book so long ago, I honestly don't remember. But I must have liked it because it is still on my book shelf. I love the genre -- true travel adventure books, especially ones that were written in years past as it gives you a glimpse into a culture/region that has likely changed by now.

Short, to the point, and classic Spolsky humor. I've followed Joel's blog for a couple years now, and much of this content comes from points he makes again and again, but it was great to put it all into context of how to identify, attract and hire great engineers.
How can I not like Pi that starts in my home town Pondicherry :) If you think of the animals as representing actual human beings it is quite a macabre tale...that possibility gives this book an edge..

It took a while to warm up this book. At first the language was off-putting. I have to admit that I was putt off by A Clockwork Orange as well. However, the protagonist in Black Swan Green is so likable and so real that I finally got over it. He isn't perfect, but you get a sense that his concerns and feelings are real. You feel like you are actually finding out what it is to be him. Nothing too exciting happens. There is no real all encompassing plot. We just get a year in the life. While that might sound boring to some, it is written in such a way that it is anything but.

One of my favorite books of all time.
Favorite book ever. I just re-read this book last week, and I can't stop thinking about it. And by "thinking about it" I mean planning my fantasy life with Atticus Finch. I just want to crawl up on his lap and nestle into his vest and stay there forever, listening to the crickets chirp away at night.
