Summary from Booklist: Ms. Finkleman, a mild-mannered Music Fundamentals teacher, is a completely anonymous figure at Mary Todd Lincoln Middle School. She is such a nonentity that ace student Bethesda Fielding determines there must be more to her—a secret history that needs to be uncovered. When Bethesda discovers her teacher’s punk-music past, the repercussions are hilarious, revolutionary, and TWR (“Totally Way Rock”) Mr. Melville is notorious for assigning "special projects" in his social studies class. Who knew his assignment "to solve a mystery" would turn the quiet mouse-like music teacher's life upside down. Students who enjoy Andrew Clements' (Frindle, No Talking, etc) style of writing. It is a quick, engaging read that will also serve as an introduction to mysteries. The characters are well developed and the plot moves along at a good pace. Students will enjoy the musical references. Would make a great read a loud for the classroom. Mrs. Archer's rating: 5 of 5

Enjoyable Romeo & Juliet story.
It breaks my heart that I didn't like this more- I usually LOVE Moore's work. But I've never liked King Lear, and this parody just didn't work for me. There were a few good one-liners and giggleworthy moments, but overall, I just couldn't get into it.

I didn't love this book, but I liked it. It's a thriller along the lines of the movie Fatal Attraction, only this is a bit darker.

I really enjoyed this book--it was well written and I zipped right through it, not wanting it to end.

I couldn't put this book down and read it in 2 days (which is pretty speedy for me....of course, I got nothing else done). It is the story of Kimberly and her mother who come to NYC from Hong Kong "thanks" to their aunt/sister. The aunt owns a sweatshop and the girl and her mother work there while living in a rat and roach infested apartment without heat. The aunt deducts money from their pay (1.5 cents per outfit) the mother's medical expenses (she had tuberculosis while in Hong Kong), their travel and visa expenses and rent for their lovely apartment. While it sounds like a "downer" of a story, it really isn't. It is inspiring how hard Kimberly works to overcome their hard times.
An indentured girl from Ireland, growing up with the slaves on a southern plantation. Certain parts of the story were difficult to read, the disregard for human rights and feelings was almost unbearable. The story was very moving and emotional. There were times when I wanted to put the book down but could not. Nothing was predictable in the story and a very realistic ending. Can't wait to see if the author follows up on some of the characters.
This is a good book, you couldn't put down, I read it in 3 days ....
