Loved this book - couldn't put it down. I'm a sucker for the whole "love conquers all" premise... although it was hard to understand at times why these two people loved each other in the first place. It was as if they were cosmically connected in some way and couldn't help but be together. Characters not always that likeable, but I couldn't help rooting for them to have a happy ending although the foreshadowing made it pretty clear that this wouldn't be the case. Great premise - thought it was a very original take on the time travel concept.

I read banned books! Seriously, I picked this up because my students were writing a benchmark essay about book-banning, which they didn't really understand. Forever has been challenged repeatedly so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It could have been so much better.

this book was a constant pleasant surprise. i kept forgetting how much i enjoyed it. like, i'd put it down, go do stuff, and then pick it up again later and be surprised all over again by how smart it was. this book is clever, in the sense that it contains a myriad of popular culture references, both high brow and low brow. but it's also surprising in its depth - it's funny, but really astute, also. and the story just keeps unfolding, but then folding up more - getting more and more surprisingly complex. LOVED it.

** spoiler alert ** Ok, first word jumbles anyone? Varen = r a v e n. So I have checked this book in numerous times. Each time I have flipped it over, and passed. C'mon, football star dating head cheerleader falls for mysterious goth looking guy. Been there, done that. But my fellow Goodread friends were giving this really good reviews. So the Poe obsessed Varen has the writing power to make Poe's story come to life...in an in-between world, and his journal writings help transfer him there. In comes Isobel who shares a class with Varen where they are teamed up to do a project on an author...they choose Poe. The drama between Isobel and football star boyfriend Brad is expected. Isobel is shunned by her "crew" when she starts spending more time with Varen. Varen himself tends to be quiet and intense, and I was never quite sure what he was going to do next. The book ends with Reynolds lying to Isobel so she will destroy the journal that has lifted the veil between worlds. Varen in trapped in the in-between, and Isobel believes she has found a way to bring him back.
