Not bad- a relatively quick book to read- reminded me a little of Mary Higgins Clark (no relation) in the jumping back and forth of perspectives and the intertwining of story threads. I guessed wrong who was the bad guy, though, but was right in that it wasn't initially the obvious nutcases.

I picked this up waiting 5 hrs for a flight in Midway Airport and am so glad I did. I honestly can't remember if I read the book as a kid or just remember the movie really well, but reading this is like visiting an old friend. And as you talk you find out all the reasons you liked them back in the day are still there, but even better now.

This book was the second in the Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing series. As was the begining of the series, this book was good.

Amazing translations and summary throughout. They should take out the teen title and simply call it extreme. This book is great for everyone.

I loathed the father and was incredibly frustrated with the mother. I had a difficult time understanding most of the characters. Sometimes, especially when there are the cultural and era differences there are here, I have tremendous interest in a book; here it made it very difficult for me to read it. I’m not sure why as I’ve adored plenty of books with evil or unappealing characters. I did begin to enjoy it a bit more toward the end and I should probably give the next two books in the trilogy a try…but there are just so many books that I want to read so I doubt that I will do that. But I know that many people think highly of this book and I wouldn’t want to dissuade anyone from reading it.
Beautifully written, surprising finale, but wonderful all the same.
Now I am addicted!
Whoa, Nellie! Thought somehow that I was getting a humorous novel...It's the story of a group home for the mentally ill and the process of establishing it and the stories of some of its inhabitants. Interesting, and maybe a 3.5. One of the character's personalities likes to use the F bomb a lot. Out of curiosity, who recommended this in the first place?

John Lukacs is such a wonderful historian. His narrative style is dramatic and informative and he has the ability to isolate crucial historical events, in this case the disaster of the fall of France in 1940, tie it to one speech of Winston Churchill's and thereby illuminate the times. Much like his earlier book, Five Days in London: May 1940, here Lukacs makes perfectly clear the gravity of the situation in Britain as France fell. The possibility of a victorious Nazi invasion of Britain with all of Europe as part of the Third Reich was too horrible to contemplate but also too real a possibility.
