Edit: Read again, again. Ok, it's not deep, but it's one of the most enjoyable light novels ever. The female protagonist is also portrayed a lot more as an active agent than was usual in that era of adventure fiction. Just read again for maybe the dozenth time. I think I've finally reached the age or life stage where it's a bit too gooey, but the plot is still well contrived. The characters aren't of the deepest, but I think that's part of what made it fun as a kid -- you could fill in the rest with your own details.

If you are interested in Japanese culture it's a good read but keep in mind that it's literature and best read if know more about the culture before reading this book. I got lost a bit.

I really liked this take on the Sleeping Beauty story. I loved the depth that the characters were given, their complex relationships and feelings and thoughts, the magic elements, and the way the story was told. I also really liked the way Rosie was never on her own to defeat Pernicia, how her family and community rallied around her to support her, and how she wasn't left to be rescued by a prince, but was able to fight her enemy herself. Well done and an enjoyable story.

I quite liked it and noted some of her other books I'd like to read. It's funny and cute for a fluff read. I liked the author's take on the Vampires, as they use synthetic blood instead of draining prey. Some murder and mayhem to keep you turning the pages with, of course, romance!
